Every stroke survivor's journey is unique, and your story could make a real difference to someone else who is navigating life after stroke.

By sharing your experience, you can help other survivors feel less alone, offer hope during difficult moments, and show that recovery looks different for everyone.

Many people also find that telling their story can be a positive and cathartic experience. It's an opportunity to reflect on how far you've come, celebrate your achievements, and raise awareness that stroke can happen at any age.

Whether your stroke happened recently or many years ago, we'd love to hear from you.

Your story could be exactly what someone else needs to read today.

This year, Different Strokes turns 30 and we’re celebrating with a brand new challenge: 30 for 30 💚💙

30 for 30 is about doing something meaningful for 30 days, in a way that works for you. There’s no “right” challenge and no pressure to push yourself. Small, gentle, creative, or reflective - it all counts.

Your 30 days could be:

💙 Doing your physio or stretches each day
💚 Taking a short walk or getting some fresh air
💙 Practising a new skill or hobby
💚 Writing, drawing, or journaling
💙 Cutting back on something for 30 days
💚 Checking in with someone each day

You choose the pace. You choose the challenge. You choose when to start any time this year.

By taking part, you’ll be helping to fund peer support, rehabilitation, information, and connection for younger stroke survivors across the UK - so no one has to face recovery alone.

There’s no minimum fundraising target. Every pound raised makes a difference.

To every partner, parent, child, sibling or friend who stepped up after someone they love had a stroke - this one is for you.

You didn't ask for the role. You just showed up. And you keep showing up, every single day. 💙💚

More than 6 in 10 stroke survivors rely on an unpaid carer for day-to-day life. Most carers are untrained and unprepared when it starts. Many don't even think of themselves as a carer - just someone who loves someone.

We see you. We're grateful for you. And we're here for you too.

We hold a monthly virtual meeting exclusively for carers of stroke survivors - a safe, confidential space to talk, share and connect with people who truly understand.

Congratulations to Mike Caines, winner of the Different Strokes Outstanding Contribution Award 2026.

For the past 14 years, Mike has been a quiet but vital force behind Different Strokes, helping ensure the charity remains financially strong so we can continue supporting younger stroke survivors across the UK.

As a trustee and Treasurer, Mike has dedicated his time, expertise and unwavering commitment to guiding the charity through years of growth and change. Much of his work happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt across everything we do.

Mike first became involved through his wife Julia, whose own stroke experience highlighted just how important specialist support for younger survivors is. Since joining the board in 2012, he has brought decades of financial expertise, thoughtful leadership and a genuine passion for making a difference.

As Mike says: “It makes a change to be involved with something where the driving factor isn’t profit, it’s actually making a difference to people’s lives.”

Thank you, Mike, for your years of dedication, wisdom and steady support. Different Strokes is stronger because of your contribution.

Congratulations to Kari Edwards, winner of the Different Strokes Fundraising Hero Award 2026.

After experiencing a stroke in 2022, Kari turned her recovery journey into something extraordinary, raising an incredible £2,382.86 to support younger stroke survivors.

What started as a festive fundraiser grew into a huge week-long effort, bringing together colleagues, friends, family and her wider community. From bake sales and festive games to cream pies at parkrun, Kari inspired people to get involved while raising awareness of the realities of stroke recovery and hidden disability.

Along the way, she bravely shared her own story, helping spark important conversations about life after stroke and the challenges many younger survivors face.

Kari’s positivity, determination and ability to bring people together have made a real difference to Different Strokes and the people we support.

As Kari says: “You don’t do it for an award. You do it because you want to say thank you.”
