The weather this year has changed the timing of some activity in the beehive. The removal of the male bees, the drones, usually happens at the beginning of autumn. But this year it is a month early. It seems harsh, but that is the way the honey bees have managed to survive. Thanks, drones, for all you have done and goodbye x

Another lovely corporate bee experience today at Kuehne + Nagel. We had so much fun queen spotting and learning about the supersedure process the bees have entered by creating one single queen cell. Never a dull moment!

We had the best time yesterday introducing some of our colleagues to the bees. The charity Urban Bee-lievers is part of has over 30 staff, and just 3 of us are beekeepers. It was a joy to run a bee experience for our brilliant colleagues - several who teach English and maths to the young people we run alternative education for. We are going to extract some honey together next.

Here are part of the corporate group from that came to volunteer at The Urb Farm in Wolverton today. On this 30+ degree day, we were so impressed with the amount of mowing, strimming, weeding, kit cleaning, hoop bending, and candle making they got done. It was great fun. Just had a great time festival with the Urb Farm team learning so much about regenerative farming and the work we can all continue to do to look after the soil. We work hard at this already at the Urb Farm, but there is always more to learn. There was also some honeybee stuff going on - which was interesting along with delicious food and brilliant people.

Yesterday, we had a lunchtime pop-up shop for the summer celebration for staff. It was great to meet up again with some of the staff that have been on our bee experience to meet the bees in our hive on the ParkMK site. The reception area also had air conditioning that was amazing in between some beekeeping.

It has been a few hot and sauna-like few days for beekeepers. We put the bricks up when the hive needs inspecting. It was so good to see the bricks down and to know that our bees have been checked. The hot weather and honey flow are keeping the bees busy and well fed.
