🇺🇦 Today, on Ukraine’s Independence Day, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Leaders of Milton Keynes City Council Milton Keynes City Council for raising the Ukrainian flag alongside the Union Jack - a powerful sign of solidarity, friendship and support.
🇬🇧🤝🇺🇦 This is what true leadership looks like.
Raising the Ukrainian flag today is more than a gesture.
It is a statement.
It is a declaration of values.
It is a clear position in support of freedom, democracy and justice.
Flying proudly beside the Union Jack, the Ukrainian flag symbolises the friendship between our nations and our shared commitment to protecting the principles on which peaceful democratic societies are built.
Ukraine stands at the heart of Europe. Today, Ukrainian defenders are fighting not only for their homes, families and country, but for the security and future of the wider European continent.
The consequences of allowing aggression to succeed would not stop at Ukraine’s borders. The security of Ukraine and the security of Europe are deeply connected.
That is why solidarity matters.
That is why leadership matters.
And that is why supporting Ukraine today matters.
On this Independence Day, seeing our flag flying in the heart of Milton Keynes carries a particularly powerful meaning for Ukrainians who now call this city home.
It tells us:
You are seen.
You are not forgotten.
You do not stand alone.
