‼️Alongside 32 other organisations, Parliamentarians, and people with lived experience of long-term conditions and disabilities, we have written to the Prime Minister to raise our concerns that there are not sufficient safeguards for over 170 specialist NHS services.

The Health Bill amounts to far more than an organisational restructuring of the NHS. We are concerned that without additional protections there are not sufficient safeguards to ensure consistency and accountability across the country.

It is our belief that patients should not face different standards of care simply because they live in a different part of the country. Therefore, it is essential that clear national oversight and routes of accountability are built into the new system from the outset.

We're proud to announce Coloplast as our first Healthcare Solutions Partner, a new partnership model dedicated to companies providing healthcare products for the spinal cord injury community.

With long-established partnerships in the care and legal sectors, launching these new Healthcare Solutions Partnerships gives us the opportunity to widen the support, expertise and experience available through our network.

We’ll also be working with Coloplast on an exciting project to develop our Knowledge Hub, which will modernise the education resources available to SIA members. Using clinical expertise and lived experience, the project will create trusted resources on bowel, bladder and skin health for people living with SCI and their families.

💬 "Hi, I'm Jayne. 3 years ago I broke my back, bursting the L1 vertebrae in my spine with severe additional fractures not knowing if I would regain my ability to walk again."

"After 3 months intensive treatment and physio I slowly began to get my mobility back. This period of trauma was a turning point in my life wanting to live each day to the max despite still suffering from ongoing back pain. Counting my blessings I actively got back into cycling - swimming - gym and took the plunge into running from Couch to 5k to setting myself a goal of the Manchester Half marathon."

Last week Jayne completed this goal, despite injuring her ankle early into the race she pushed on, and power walked across the finish line having raised over £600 for a charity very close to her heart.

She said, "I don’t know how I finished! But 3 years ago I was just grateful to still be able to walk and the I had to remember the reason I was doing this in the first place. Thank you everyone one who donated and sent some very special words of support. Now on to the next challenge!"

Congratulations Jayne from all of us here at SIA ❤️
