Next week - Monday and Wednesday 18th and 20th May we have two Web Development sessions running 10am - 2pm.

The sessions are aimed at beginners, and those who are currently out of work but would like to get started with Web Development, or who have a new project idea you want to promote using a website.

This is what the sessions will cover...

πŸŒπŸ’‘ BUILD YOUR WEBSITE. LAUNCH YOUR IDEA.
Monday 18 May Β· 10am–2pm
The Lighthouse Project, Middleton
This is Session One of a two-part programme. Both sessions are free, and registering for each one separately takes 30 seconds β€” links are below.

You don't need to know anything about websites or business to walk in on Monday. By Wednesday, you'll have a real, live website β€” hosted for a full year β€” and the foundations of a business idea you actually believe in.

πŸ“… SESSION ONE β€” Monday 18 May
We start with you β€” your ideas, your interests, your potential. No theory without doing. No waiting until you're "ready."

πŸ“… SESSION TWO β€” Wednesday 20 May
This is where it all comes together. Session Two is not a repeat β€” it's the finish line. You'll complete your website, connect it to the world, and walk away with something genuinely valuable: a live online presence that's yours for a year.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHAT YOU'LL BUILD AND LEARN:
βœ… A real website β€” built and launched by you
βœ… How to manage and grow it using professional tools
βœ… Lean startup thinking β€” turning ideas into viable businesses
βœ… Digital marketing basics to get your site seen
βœ… The mindset and skills behind freelance and entrepreneurial work

🎁 Complete both sessions and your website is hosted live for a full year β€” free.

Knitting for Bereavement Group Royal Oldham Hospital.

Our weekly Knit and Natter group regularly support other community projects, this is the latest of many projects that are supported.

A recent project for our Knit and Natter (and crochet) group was for the Bereavement Group at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Rae asked if we would make small cribs for stillborn babies. We were more than willing to help to support parents through this very sad time. Here the nurses are showing what we (and others) made.

This is an ongoing project and if anyone would like to donate yarn, we would be very grateful.

Electronics and coding skills are rare, which is exactly why they are valuable. Monday 11th and Wed 13th May 10am-2pm.

Most people assume electronics and this kind of thing isn't for them β€” that you need a technical background, a certain kind of brain, or years of study before you can touch a circuit board. None of that is true. Electronics and programming are learnable skills, and the best way to learn them is by doing.

The tech sector in the North of England alone had over 280,000 job vacancies back in 2016. That number is estimated to be closer to one million today. The average salary in the sector is well above the regional average β€” and it's rising. People who can work with physical technology, who understand how sensors, microcontrollers and code fit together, are genuinely hard to find.

This course gives you a real foothold into that world. Dream big, even the longest journey starts with a single step, why not make yours by coming along to this hands-on session? No pressure, no performance, just encouragement to stretch yourself and release your potential.

Are you thinking about working in the technology sector, perhaps, electronics, or making things, but don't know where to start?

Well, why not come along to our free electronics and coding training at the Lighthouse Project. It's two 4hr sessions on Monday 11th May, and Wednesday 13th May - 10am till 3pm.

This is a hands-on course, not a classroom lecture.

This course is built on a simple belief: you are the teacher. We are the facilitators β€” providing access to the tools, components and space you need to educate yourself through experience.

There are no lectures here. No passive listening. No waiting to be told what to think. From the moment you sit down, you're doing β€” and the doing is the learning. This is constructivism in practice: the idea that genuine understanding comes not from being given answers, but from building them yourself.

Computer science education was hollowed out in schools for over a decade, replaced by IT training that taught people to use software rather than understand it. This course is part of putting that right β€” getting practical, creative, physical computing back into the hands of people who were never given the chance.

In the next few years there will be a lot of technology based jobs coming to the area, especially Atom Valley, this could be your opportunity to take a step towards something new.

Something wonderfully weird is brewing in
Middleton... πŸ‘€

Coming to a place near you. For 1 week only, the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

Pubs, streets, corners, market stalls and in-between spaces will come alive with art and pop-up performances you might not expect... but won't forget.

Drift in. Stumble upon something. Stay a while.
Middleton Fringe Festival is coming.
