We all love a good celebration don't we, well yesterday we celebrated the 16th Birthday of the Lighthouse Project, reflecting on the journey we've been on since June 2010 when we first opened our doors in the Warwick Mill, with the heady ambitions to welcome and support people so 'they achieved...'

Well here we are in 2026 marking 16 years of community service, and hopefully building on our strengths and achivements for many more years to come.

Since we first opened our doors we have recorded over 450,000 visits through our doors, that's a lot of people needing help, and a lot of tea bags and loo roll!

We want to say 'thank you' to everyone who has supported us over the years, those who have donated, given food, or practical help, or who have volunteered for us helping to make it all happen. We couldn't have done it on our own, so we appreciate being part of an amazing community that wants to see positive change for our town.

And just to add a sense of nostalgia to the celebrations we have included a photo from our very first birthday celebration in the Warwick Mill. Enjoy.

Did you know we have our very own weekly Music in Mind dementia cafe here at the Lighthouse, every Thursday from 10.30am - 12 noon?

The group meets for refreshments with the music session starting at 11am. The session is participant led - giving people opportunity to make music using percussion instruments while having a lot of fun. Sessions are free - why don't you come and see what it's all about? We would love to welcome you.

Next week - Monday and Wednesday 18th and 20th May we have two Web Development sessions running 10am - 2pm.

The sessions are aimed at beginners, and those who are currently out of work but would like to get started with Web Development, or who have a new project idea you want to promote using a website.

This is what the sessions will cover...

πŸŒπŸ’‘ BUILD YOUR WEBSITE. LAUNCH YOUR IDEA.
Monday 18 May Β· 10am–2pm
The Lighthouse Project, Middleton
This is Session One of a two-part programme. Both sessions are free, and registering for each one separately takes 30 seconds β€” links are below.

You don't need to know anything about websites or business to walk in on Monday. By Wednesday, you'll have a real, live website β€” hosted for a full year β€” and the foundations of a business idea you actually believe in.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
πŸ“… SESSION ONE β€” Monday 18 May
We start with you β€” your ideas, your interests, your potential. You'll get hands-on with professional web tools straight away, begin building your site, and start exploring how lean startup thinking turns everyday ideas into real opportunities. No theory without doing. No waiting until you're "ready."

πŸ“… SESSION TWO β€” Wednesday 20 May
This is where it all comes together. Session Two is not a repeat β€” it's the finish line. You'll complete your website, connect it to the world, and walk away with something genuinely valuable: a live online presence that's yours for a year.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHAT YOU'LL BUILD AND LEARN:
βœ… A real website β€” built and launched by you
βœ… How to manage and grow it using professional tools
βœ… Lean startup thinking β€” turning ideas into viable businesses
βœ… Digital marketing basics to get your site seen
βœ… The mindset and skills behind freelance and entrepreneurial work

🎁 Complete both sessions and your website is hosted live for a full year β€” free.

Knitting for Bereavement Group Royal Oldham Hospital.

Our weekly Knit and Natter group regularly support other community projects, this is the latest of many projects that are supported.

A recent project for our Knit and Natter (and crochet) group was for the Bereavement Group at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Rae asked if we would make small cribs for stillborn babies. We were more than willing to help to support parents through this very sad time. Here the nurses are showing what we (and others) made.

This is an ongoing project and if anyone would like to donate yarn, we would be very grateful.
