Our Councillors and members undertake regular walks around their Wards and the town centre, including evenings/nights.
Last night we came across a young person aged 18 on the floor in a doorway in the centre of Middleton so we approached keeping a respectful distance, waking them to see if they were ok which thankfully they were but it turns out they were homeless.
After two hours on the phone to Rochdale Borough Council out of hours homelessness service and EDT [emergency duty team] who were both willing but unable to help due to either lack of a place/bed or, as it was past midnight, unable to book an overnight bed.
We took the young person to the Assheton Arm@s Hotel and secured a room for the night, by this time it was 1:40am.
We returned at 9am this morning to meet the young person and took them to Brentwood Middleton Day Centre who arranged some breakfast immediately, followed by a full assessment of his physical/mental wellbeing, his circumstances and requirements, as well as booking him in for some lunch this afternoon whilst securing somewhere for him to stay.
Can we ask you all if you are able to help Brentwood in any way, please do so as they are an amazing organisation with understanding, caring, helpful staff.
