Raising vital funds for The Christie NHS Foundation Trust

Please note this account is only monitored Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm excluding bank holidays. We couldn't do this without the fantastic support of people, both across the North West and around the UK. Thank you for helping us to work towards a future without cancer.

💙 Meet Chris Nutman, a Clinical Research Practitioner at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust who is taking on The Christie Charity Challenge.

Chris supports non-interventional research studies at The Christie, helping collect information and samples from patients as they go through treatment. This can include looking at changes in fitness, reported side effects, biological changes through blood and stool samples, and supporting biopsy studies.

He says he loves his role and sees first-hand how research can help improve understanding of cancer as well as patient outcomes.

Chris also sees the impact of charity funding at The Christie, including projects like the Paterson building.

💬 “It’s amazing seeing the charity contributions to projects such as the Paterson building. Studies where I help support with sample collections all go up to the labs for further a**lysis, this would not have been possible or as easy without funding. The studies and the additional learning we get from in-depth a**lysis of samples make a big difference to our understanding of cancer.”

This year, Chris is taking on The Christie Challenge, completing more than 6 different fundraising activities in 12 months. So far, he has taken part in Night of Neon, Wilmslow Half Marathon and RIDE The Dales, and he has signed up for The Christie Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride, Alderley Park Trail Race, Manchester 100 and the Manchester Half Marathon.

As a keen cyclist, Chris is especially looking forward to The Christie Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride, which he has already completed 6 times. 🚴

💬 “I’ve done Manchester to Blackpool 6 times previously, love it! It’s always a really nice day out, love the atmosphere during the ride and support from the marshals to the hub at the finish line. Really enjoy it! I’ve got some colleagues going for it with me this year so looking forward to doing it with them.”

Feeling inspired by Chris? Take on The Christie Challenge and help support cancer patients and their families. 👇

The Christie Hospital garden has had a glow up! ✨

Head gardener Phill and his team have been hard at work putting in some new summer bedding, so as part of we thought we'd show off all the wonderful colours in the charity funded garden at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. 🌷

A massive well done to Phill and the team for bringing the garden to life, and we hope patients, staff and visitors can enjoy some much needed relaxation time here over the summer! 🌞

Last week, we were honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales to The Christie. 👑

During her visit, The Princess met patients, staff and volunteers and saw first-hand how charity-funded wellbeing services are supporting patients and their families throughout their cancer journey.

She visited the chemotherapy unit, built with funds raised by The Christie Charity, as well as the charity-funded art room, gardens and Teenage and Young Adult Unit. These spaces and services help patients and families feel more comfortable, supported and cared for during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Speaking to Christie Charity staff, Her Royal Highness said:
💬 “The Christie Charity is doing a truly fantastic job. The facilities and wellbeing offer here is extraordinary. I've spoken to some of the patients today and having these extra services is making a huge difference for them. Best of luck with your Scanning Centre Appeal."

For anyone new to our page, The Christie Charity supports the work of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust by funding care, treatment, research, education and extra services for patients and their families.

Everything we do is only possible thanks to our incredible supporters, fundraisers, donors and volunteers. Because of you, we can help The Christie continue to provide kinder, gentler cancer care and remain a world leader in cancer research, treatment and patient support.

Thank you to everyone who supports The Christie Charity. 💙

😷 From the operating theatre to Mount Toubkal. ⛰️

Paul Sutton and Jonathan Wild are consultant colorectal surgeons at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. This June, they’ll be swapping scrubs for hiking boots as they take on The Christie Charity’s Mount Toubkal Trek in Morocco. 👏

Paul and Jonathan work with patients with advanced, metastatic and recurrent cancer, their team also treats patients with rare cancers, for example a**l, neuroendocrine, and sarcoma tumours.

They said:
💬 “A significant part of the work we do is treating patients with pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP). This is a rare cancer of the appendix, and is treated with extensive surgery and intra-peritoneal chemotherapy administered whilst patients are asleep. Our centre is one of only two in the country who treat this condition. We rely on charity support to help provide the expansive care that patients with this condition require.”

The pair will be fundraising for the Pseudomyxoma Fund, supporting the specialist work and research carried out by the colorectal surgery team at The Christie.

Their trek will take them through the High Atlas Mountains as they attempt to summit Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak at 4,167m.

And the preparation?

💬 “Our prep for the challenge has included some long walks, and plenty of time in the gym! We’re feeling confident, although a little bit worried about the altitude as neither of us will ever have trekked that high.”

Good luck Paul and Jonathan. We’ll be cheering you on all the way. 💙

The Christie Charity Team Meet Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales!

We were delighted to speak with The Princess today at The Christie. The Princess visited a number of Charity funded departments across the hospital including the Art Room, Grounds and Gardens and The Christie's chemotherapy unit which was built using funds raised by The Christie Charity.

We are touched that our work was recognised by The Princess when she commented on the 'fantastic, extraordinary job' we are doing and how lucky the Trust is to have such a supportive and active charity.

The Princess also recognised the importance of the Charity funded 'crucial' therapy and wellbeing offers across the hospital before wishing us luck in fundraising for a brand new scanning centre.
