💙 Meet Chris Nutman, a Clinical Research Practitioner at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust who is taking on The Christie Charity Challenge.
Chris supports non-interventional research studies at The Christie, helping collect information and samples from patients as they go through treatment. This can include looking at changes in fitness, reported side effects, biological changes through blood and stool samples, and supporting biopsy studies.
He says he loves his role and sees first-hand how research can help improve understanding of cancer as well as patient outcomes.
Chris also sees the impact of charity funding at The Christie, including projects like the Paterson building.
💬 “It’s amazing seeing the charity contributions to projects such as the Paterson building. Studies where I help support with sample collections all go up to the labs for further a**lysis, this would not have been possible or as easy without funding. The studies and the additional learning we get from in-depth a**lysis of samples make a big difference to our understanding of cancer.”
This year, Chris is taking on The Christie Challenge, completing more than 6 different fundraising activities in 12 months. So far, he has taken part in Night of Neon, Wilmslow Half Marathon and RIDE The Dales, and he has signed up for The Christie Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride, Alderley Park Trail Race, Manchester 100 and the Manchester Half Marathon.
As a keen cyclist, Chris is especially looking forward to The Christie Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride, which he has already completed 6 times. 🚴
💬 “I’ve done Manchester to Blackpool 6 times previously, love it! It’s always a really nice day out, love the atmosphere during the ride and support from the marshals to the hub at the finish line. Really enjoy it! I’ve got some colleagues going for it with me this year so looking forward to doing it with them.”
