Charity Church abseil 11/07/26 0930-1730 st Leonard’s church Hythe.

Back by popular demand for 2026, are you brave enough to sign-up for this thrilling adrenaline rush with Folkestone & Hythe Scouts, assisted by the Kent Scouts Climbing Team? As you make the ascent and reach the roof of the 18th century church tower, you'll get the chance to take in the amazing surrounding views, including looking out across the English Channel.

You’ll then start a breath-taking 120ft descent down the north face of the church tower. Take your next Scouting challenge to new heights and become part of this unique event that will provide you with an unforgettable experience which will also raise money for worthy local charitable causes. 50% of the monies raised will go towards the purchase of equipment and on-going maintenance of a climbing & abseil tower for the Folkestone and Hythe Scouting District and the other 50% will fund youth activities, equipment and routine repair & maintenance needs for the church.

This challenge is not for the fainthearted, so priority will be given to participants who have had some form of previous abseiling experience. It is open to everyone aged 10.5 years and over on the basis that you can climb unaided (but on a safety rope) to the top of the church roof.

Detalls on how to register your interest will be made available very soon!

Dear Scout, Cub and Beaver parents, guardians and carers.

I'm pleased to advise that we've received confirmation today from The Scout Association insurers (Unity Insurance Services) that you are permitted as 'supporters' to take part in the charity abseil down St Leonard's Church next month. Why not sign-up with your son, daughter, niece or nephew and descend down the 120ft church tower in tandem (we'll be running two ropes right next to each other). You'll be raising money for good causes at the same time. Have you got children of at least Scout age (10.5yrs and above) that aren't Scout members but want to give it a try - they can sign-up too!

If you're Interested in taking on the challenge, take a look at our event page for more information and to register:
