We have some really lovely weather lately and the garden has had a much needed tidy up too. The children have spent lots of time outside, exploring some new resources and rediscovering things we bought last year. It is great to see some fabulous "risky play" going on - who knew that the ladders would be so popular!

The children have enjoyed the water tray too and are loving the recently added basketball hoop! It is proving to add a real challenge to their play and they are using the planks and podiums to add a bit of height to make it easier.

This week I have been out and bought lots of plants and the pre-schoolers have been been busy digging over the planting area at the back of playgroup, ready to do some planting tomorrow. They are going to be doing lots of growing activities leading up to half term, including cress, broad beans and sunflowers.

Don't forget the sun cream in the morning please - the UV levels are moderate to high at the moment and as you can see we have lots planned to be outside as much as possible.

Just a reminder about ensuring that the food in your children's lunch boxes is prepared according to safer eating guidelines. We have noticed that some children's food is not being prepared according to this and we need to ensure that the children can independently eat their food safely. Any food that is not prepared the way shown in the picture below will be returned home in their lunchbox.

Please also ensure that you have put a cold pack in your child's lunchboxes with their food to keep it chilled and safe to eat at lunch time.

Thank you

Please come and support us next Tuesday 28th April and buy some cakes to help raise money towards a second seated trolley so we can take all our smallest children out safely on walks around camp and further afield too.

We are also looking for donations of cakes if you are able to make one for us, please write a list of ingredients for allergy purposes. They can be dropped directly to the community room from 0915 - if the weather is nice we will be outside selling them and if not we will be inside the community room.

Please tell your family and friends too. You will be able to pay by cash or card.

Just before we finished for the Easter break, Julie and Gem from the Kent & Beyond Early Years Stronger Practice Hub came to visit us and showed us a fabulous activity that the children really loved. It is called Hapa Zome which literally means "Leaf Dye" and is a Japanese print making technique using the pigments in leaves and flowers to produce prints in fabric. This involved laying leaves, petals and whole flowers onto wooden logs, placing white fabric over the top and carefully using small hammers, crushing them together to release the pigment into the fabric. The results are beautiful and the children were wowed by this, they thoroughly enjoyed the 'bashing' part with the hammer and were excited to see the resulting prints on the fabric. This week they will be turning the dried, printed fabric into framed pictures and wands using sticks they have collected on one of their walks.

We have now received our beautiful new books bought with the fundraising money from our recent sponsored listen with Lynn French at Usborne Books. The children are going to love exploring these, so thank you to all the families and friends who supported the children to achieve this.

Thank you to everyone who took part in our recent sponsored listen with Usborne books. We raised a really good amount of £254.50 but unfortunately did not reach our target of £300. This means that Usborne would only top up the amount with free books to the value of £25 giving us a total of £279 to spend on books.
Because of this, I will personally top up the amount to £300 as this will give us £390 to spend on books for the children in the setting.

We really do rely on all your support throughout the year to ensure we can continually develop and improve the setting and the resources for the children to explore and enjoy, so thank you again to all of those who joined in. We will be sending home a certificate and book to those who took part.

How lucky we have been with the weather in the last week, it has meant lots of outside play but without bulky wet gear, the sun has been warm and shining so we have had some great fun exploring shadows and the Rainbow Room children went out and had fun at the park. Just what we need to chase those germs away!
