Olivia Inspires

Olivia Inspires An award winning charity helping young people in the New Forest achieve their potential.

Olivia Inspires was set up to allow the spirit of New Forest student, Olivia Burt to live on after her tragic death in 2018. What Olivia Inspires Does

Olivia Inspires helps children and young people aged 11 to 18 years, who live in, or are educated in the New Forest District Council area and who are facing financial hardship. We do this by awarding grants of money, normally no more than £500, to

provide items or services to enable them to achieve their potential in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), the arts and sport.

The latest of our Olivia Inspires funded sailing voyages set sail yesterday. The 10 Hounsdown School pupils had a busy first day learning how to tack and practising man overboard drills, before heading to Osborne Bay to anchor for the night.

This is the second of our 2026 voyages with our partner the Rona Sailing Project and a further 5 voyages will be taking place this summer, thanks to generous support from the Charles Burnett Memorial Fund through the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation.

We hope they all have an amazing time! 😊

On Sunday a team of intrepid athletes from University College, Durham took to the streets of Gateshead in wet and challenging conditions to run a half marathon. The torrential rain didn't dampen their enthusiasm for raising much needed funds for Olivia Inspires and so far they've raised an incredible £1,300 - a fantastic effort!

Thanks to all of the runners and everyone who contributed to their fundraising. Thanks also to LOTEM Graphics for printing the running vests. Great job!

Today marks 8 years since we lost our beloved daughter, Olivia. She faced everything in life with positivity and a smile, her love of life continues to inspire us every day.

As we remember our wonderful daughter, we celebrate her incredible legacy and the impact she had on everyone who knew her. Olivia’s spirit lives on through her charity, Olivia Inspires.

Olivia achieved so much in her life that was so tragically cut short. We will hold her in our hearts forever and cherish our memories of her.

If you were fortunate enough to have known Olivia, please share your own memories of her and don’t forget to smile as you do.

It was great to catch up with New Milton Youth Trust chair of trustees Helen Wallis-Dowling (left) and youth work manager Laura Follett (right) and hear all about the great work they're doing to help young people in New Milton.

Olivia Inspires provided funding for their Pupil Reintegration Program which offered home educated students a bespoke program to support their academic and emotional well-being as they returned to The Arnewood School. We look forward to working with you again!

CONGRATULATIONS!

You may remember that back in October we helped a talented young bowler from Totton with an award to buy his own set of bowls. We’ve just had an exciting update from his mum, who said: “On Saturday my son took part in an under 14s competition for bowls players across Hampshire and he won! Now he’ll go to the Nationals in October! The bowls you gave him have made a massive difference thank you so much.”

We love hearing how Olivia’s charity is making a real difference to young people’s lives 😊

*** If You Go Down To The Woods Today ***

We've just been down to the woods in Beaulieu where we had a great time talking to our Year 11 Woodlanders students from Priestlands School in Lymington, who were practicing using two-handed draw knives with the help of a shave horse. The 2-year Woodlanders course teaches the young people a wide range of traditional country skills and can lead to a variety of courses at colleges such as Sparsholt College
