A friendly, relaxed monthly art group for neurodivergent adults, led by Mel Sims and Jane Corner at spudWORKS.

Come along to meet like-minded people, explore your creativity and enjoy making art in a welcoming space. No previous art experience is needed.

Kate Watkins' show is a deeply personal exploration of memory, connection and the enduring power of creative expression in the face of dementia. Timed to coincide with World Alzheimer’s Month, this solo exhibition by fine art printmaker Kate Watkins reflects on the creativity legacy and inspiration provided by her mother Jill Watkins throughout their time together juxtaposed with the shifting perceptions which characterise her ongoing journey with the illness.

A mental health social worker by profession and prolific amateur artist, Jill once mastered everything from glass engraving and woodturning to calligraphy, botanical painting, poetry and creative writing. As dementia gradually erases Jill’s memories of her own portfolio, Kate reimagines her mother’s artistic archive through her own contemporary printmaking practice, photography, installation and animation—ensuring this creative inheritance lives on for her own children. The exhibition is also a way to connect with others’ navigating the ramifications of dementia.

spudWORKS will be opening our grounds and creative spaces to the public as part of Hampshire Open Studios from 22 - 31st August - come along and visit our artist studios and explore the Artful Collective exhibition in our main gallery space!

We are holding a special celebration event to mark the end of the Open Studios on Bank Holiday Monday 31st August from 10 - 4pm

Join us in our gardens where you can wander round our artist studios, take part in a workshop or relax under the trees with live music and a bar provided by The Silver Hind!

LIZ BLUM - PLASTICINE (27 July - 8 August)

This is your last chance to come and see Liz Blum's exhibition 'Plasticine' at SPUD!
The show closes tomorrow at 3pm!

Plasticine describes a series of possibilities, coming together and falling apart. Speculative visions, blend forms and animated colours, exploring the tension of movement, disappearance, and resurfacing, always with the possibility of seeing something new.

Paintings and videos use this morphic freedom to explore plasticine’s subtle mutations as visual cues, action, and framework.

Liz Blum works in abstraction, exploring surface, form, space, and color. Working with paint, collage, image transfers, and video, Blum’s abstractions are influenced by technology’s role in our lives and hint at connectivity and dissolution as a matter of harmony and frisson.

Liz Blum works in abstraction, exploring surface, form, space, and color. Working with paint, collage, image transfers, and video, Blum’s abstractions are influenced by technology’s role in our lives and hint at connectivity and dissolution as a matter of harmony and frisson.

There wasn’t much we could see or imagine in it, other than setting it aside as uncollaborative. But what if we view it differently, as a potential to connect the unseen, overlapping realities of the physical world with the invented?”

Plasticine describes a series of possibilities coming together and falling apart. Speculative visions blend vibrant forms and animated colours, exploring the tension of movement, disappearance, and resurfacing through form and space, always with the possibility of seeing something new.

Paintings and videos use this morphic freedom to explore plasticine’s subtle mutations as visual cues, action, and framework.

In the paintings, the verticality and vibrancy of Plasticine begins as a starting point, as if lines of coloured packeted material. Following the works journeys through aspects of workability and clarity, with colours, shapes, and forms reappearing, sometimes as connective forces, at times breaking apart.

The videos are a thematic contrast, with realistic content being upended into alternative perspectives, where time, speed and sequencing are stretched apart and pulled together.
