It's almost time for SPUD's next exhibition with works by Kitty Culpeper-Gausden & Danilo Zocatelli...
Rather than presenting finished works as fixed outcomes, the exhibition focuses on the processes through which they emerge: fragments, tests, experiments, found materials, organic matter, photographs and objects gathered, altered and brought into relation with one another.
For Danilo Zocatelli, the works develop through an encounter between body and landscape. VIADO brings together photography, performance and materials collected from the environments he moves through, exploring transformation, displacement and the shifting relationship between the human body and the natural world. Here, the experiments surrounding the final video become part of the work itself: fragments, images, materials and attempts that trace the process of finding and making.
Kitty Culpeper-Gausden takes an intuitive and playful approach to materials, creating works and experiments that are given a temporary landscape in which to exist. Her structures provide a place for fragments, found objects and organic matter to gather, settle, and form new relationships — a temporary architecture for things that are still growing, changing, or waiting to become something else.
Together, the works occupy a space of uncertainty. Materials are not simply used to make objects; they become collaborators in the process. Things are tested, combined, transformed, discarded, supported and allowed to change.
Testing Ground is a place for things that are not yet resolved. A place to try, to fail, to gather and to grow. A place where materials, ideas and forms encounter one another and ask what they might become.
