The goal when I started this blog was to be a campaigner and educator, spreading the word on things I felt weren’t receiving the coverage they should have been, and to inspire younger people to take an interest in the need for environmental and wildlife conservation. By admitting my own misconceptions and ignorance at times (I’ve visited SeaWorld, petted a lion, seen el

ephants perform in Indonesia…), I have hopefully struck a different note, a passive voice who speaks from experience, but has now become knowledgeable enough to trust: and my blog follows that journey into knowledge and education. I began blogging in 2011, as part of a university course, which required that I create four different types of post during the semester. I was asked, when I pitched my idea to the class, whether there would be enough to write about on the topic of conservation to fill the semester. Six years later, I continue to write regular updates on the site, have met some of my biggest idols and inspirations to discuss world-changing issues, and have done my best to spread the word on compassionate conservation; that is, to use cases and examples of individuals to promote a bigger conservation message.

LION 🦁. Thank you National Geographic UK for inviting National Geographic Society Explorers to the advance screening of LION in Leicester Square last night! A beautiful few days spent relaxing by the River Stiffkey in North Norfolk, to contrast the hustle and bustle of London during the first half of last week . I love returning to and this time it was wonderful to have my parents join me, staying in the ‘Old Verandah’ on the same grounds (It’s so beautiful and stylish 😍).
I haven’t holidayed with my parents since I was a uni student — so quite a lot has changed! 😆 But what a special experience! And there are plenty of wildlife photos to come from the gorgeous sightings that we had (barn owl, otters, kingfisher, swifts, swallows, kestrel, buzzards, hummingbird hawk moths etc.).

Can you spot the swallow flying over the children’s heads in the 2nd photo? 😆

Thank you to The Lion King - UK team for giving us the chance to watch this awesome musical 🦁 following a great collab with National Geographic UK highlighting community conservation efforts to save real lions and their landscapes. This was the children’s first time seeing the show (and William’s first West End experience 🎭) and they couldn’t have loved it more! 👏🦁🦓🐆🦒🐘🐗🦜🦏

Important news!

❗ France bans hunting trophy imports ❗

Born Free is delighted to see Mathieu Lefèvre, France’s Minister Delegate for Ecological Transition, announce the suspension all imports of hunting trophies from endangered species with immediate effect.

The Minister has also outlined plans to regulate the keeping of non-domestic animals as pets through the development of a ‘positive list’. A decree establishing the criteria for evaluating which species will be permitted will be published within three months, and a committee of independent experts will conduct the evaluations, which will apply to mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians.

The announcement follows months of behind-the-scenes work by Born Free and others. It also includes plans to strengthen the keeping conditions of wildlife and controls on travelling circuses, introduce appropriate sanctions for transgressions, ban the cross breeding of domestic with non-domestic animals, and encourage the creation of new rescue centres to accommodate seized or abandoned animals.
