Kicking off Earth Week in style with our Bug Hotel: Habitat Hero Session! 🐞🏡

I’m so excited for my third visit to Exhall Grange Specialist School — it’s always such a brilliant experience!

Together, we’ll be exploring natural materials, building bug hotels, and transforming the school grounds into thriving mini-habitats. 🌱🪵

Working collaboratively, students will hollow out natural materials to create safe, inviting spaces for minibeasts — a fantastic hands-on way to understand how habitats are formed and adapted.

Through a practical STEM approach, students will design, build, and problem-solve while learning about science habitats, minibeasts, and biodiversity. Alongside this, we’ll be developing key PSHE skills — teamwork, responsibility, and caring for living things — all rooted in real-world environmental action.

This session is all about boosting biodiversity, sparking curiosity, and giving students the chance to connect with nature in a meaningful, practical way.

Can’t wait to see what incredible habitats we create together! 💚🐛 HabitatHeroes EnvironmentalEducation LearningOutside PSHE ScienceEducation NatureBasedLearning Sustainability HandsOnLearning

🌱🐌 Seed Snails: Grow BIG in Small Spaces this Easter!

Looking for a fun, low-cost Easter break project? Try seed snails (aka seed rolls) — a clever way to grow loads of seedlings using hardly any space ♻️

✨ Why they’re amazing:
• 🌿 Grow more in less space – perfect for windowsills & small homes
• ♻️ Use recycled materials – plastic bags, compost sacks, fabric scraps
• 💰 Save money & compost – no bulky pots needed
• 📦 Portable & tidy – easy to move around
• 🌱 Strong roots – seedlings grow down, not out

🌀 How to make a Seed Snail:
1. Cut a strip (15–20cm wide, up to 1m long)
2. Add a thin layer of damp compost
3. Sprinkle seeds along one edge
4. Roll it up like a cinnamon swirl 🐌
5. Secure, stand upright in a container & water

💡 When seedlings are ready, just unroll and transplant!

Perfect for kids, beginners, and anyone short on space — grow more, waste less, and have fun doing it 🌍💚

Loved working with the amazing students at Heamoor Primary School in Penzance 🌊💚

As part of our Green Up Your Act workshops, we’ve been exploring how we can all help protect our oceans — especially here in beautiful Cornwall.

These photos show just a couple of powerful local initiatives making a difference:
♻️ “Plastic Free Schools” led by Surfers Against Sewage
🎬 Community events like “Being Plastic” raising awareness and inspiring action

The pupils were full of ideas, passion, and determination to reduce plastic waste and protect marine life. Small changes really do add up 🌍

Let’s keep working together to make Cornwall’s coastline cleaner and our oceans healthier 💙 GreenUpYourAct

What a great day we had working with year 2 at Hoe Bridge School in Woking -

Our children were immersed in a brilliant Sustainability Workshop yesterday hosted by the inspiring , exploring how climate change affects our world and how creativity and eco-thinking can help!
They learned about sustainable
materials and even created their very own notebooks using recycled items - including old maps!
Inspired by our oceans, they produced beautiful fish artwork made from corks, recycled paper, and buttons.
They planted microgreens and explored global plants and vegetables, using coconut shells to make compost - and took their microgreens home to grow!
And to top it all off, they built a fantastic bug hotel using natural and recycled materials, ready to be placed in our school’s sensory garden.
Our young eco-champions showed curiosity, creativity, and a real passion for protecting our planet. What an inspiring day!

🌱 Seed to plate 🌱

Our micro green radish shoots are more than just a nutritious addition to meals — they’re a hands-on way to explore key curriculum topics. From understanding plant life cycles and germination, to measuring growth and discussing food miles, these tiny greens bring learning to life.

Students can observe changes day by day, record data, and connect science with real-world sustainability. Plus, they discover how locally grown food supports both health and the environment.

Small shoots, big learning opportunities 💚

Wonderful review from Francesca Morgan - Director of Teaching and Learning from St Faith’s School in Cambridge. Thank you for visiting us at St Faith’s and for leading our Year 5 AcE Day. The workshops you delivered were inspiring, engaging and informative and the pupils really loved all the hands-on activities. It it was great to see how much they had learned and all the different ideas they had taken away. The Earthship was a big hit! Here are a few of their comments about their favourite things that I wanted to share with you…

What have you enjoyed most about today?

Everything, especially making things! (Year 5 pupil)
Making the fish – it was really satisfying! Thank you for the wonderful day. (Year 5 pupil)
The whole thing. (Year 5 pupil)
Making the booklets and learning about the Earthship (Year 5 pupil)
Do you have any suggestions of how we could make the day even better next year?

No, today was great. Do it again for sure! (Year 5 pupil)
No, it was perfect! (Year 5 pupil)
No! This year was the best. (Year 5 pupil)

Thank you for visiting us at St Faith’s before half term and for leading our Year 5 AcE Day. The workshops you delivered were inspiring, engaging and informative and the pupils really loved all the hands-on activities.

The pupils were very quick to tell me off for using paper for feedback slips at the end of the day (I promise I will recycle them!), but it was great to see how much they had learned and all the different ideas they had taken away. The Earthship was a big hit! Here are a few of their comments about their favourite things that I wanted to share with you…

The St Faiths art department was the perfect backdrop for their year 5s to engage the our Environmental detectives program - 🌍

This rich, cross-curricular STEM learning experience helps students deepen their understanding of the world around them, think critically about the long-term consequences of human actions, and embrace their role as responsible environmental stewards. 🌿✨

Through this project, pupils created a variety of innovative and creative outcomes inspired by the environmental topics they explored. 🌎💡
