Providing opportunities for older people to connect, contribute and be active - tackling isolation and promoting well-being.

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help plan and lead trips for our Furzedown Project members!

Whether it’s a day out by the seaside, a brunch, a theatre trip, a countryside walk, a festive outing — or something completely different… we also want to hear your ideas!

You don’t need to be an expert organiser. Just bring:

It’s a fantastic chance to meet people, try something new, share your interests and help create memorable experiences for all our members.

Some great photos from earlier this month when our + Group took part in the fantastic event with a vibrant Pride March from Morden to Merton Abbey Mills, where hundreds of people joined in the celebrations!

Our LGBT+ Coffee Morning Group meets every Thursday morning and anyone over 50 who lives locally in Wandsworth & Merton is welcome to join us!

Our bric-a-brac sale is on this Saturday outside the Project from 10am to 2pm
There's a great selection of items on sale including jewellery, toys and gifts and also a brand new Miele Vacuum cleaner and lovely hand-made items.

A very juicy activity to try out on Saturday outside the Project to celebrate Sustainable September - back by popular demand after our successful event last year!

We’ll be scratting and sqishing apples collected from local gardens to make delicious fresh apple juice to try for free

Bring along your own apples to be turned into juice and a bottle or suitable containers (juice must be refrigerated and drunk within 2 days)… fun for all ages!

We enjoyed a wonderful summer of stimulating and creative activities at the new Springfield Park in Tooting, thanks to a special grant from NHS South West London and St Georges, - encouraging our members to visit somewhere new, try something different and get to meet new people

We braved the heat and got very creative, sketching and painting ‘en plein air’ with the artist Lucinda Denning. And we enjoyed a great history walk & talk with historian Geoff Simmons, who had fascinating insights and anecdotes!
Our keen Photographers were snapping up the glorious sunflowers and the Gardening Group visited the inspirational Share Garden Centre and checked out the progress of the wildflower meadows and gardens of this new public park.

On Friday there was a special exhibition in Toast Stores, of the art and photographs, with a celebratory Tea Party, a prize quiz and a fantastic live music session by Swing Driven Thing - much appreciated by our members and locals in the cafe, with Andrew, one of our members, inspired to write a poem to celebrate.

If you missed it, the artworks and photographs will be exhibited again in October at our Art Show in The Project

Every Thursday morning The Furzedown Project has a very popular LGBT+ Coffee Morning group - a great chance to get together and chat about their experiences, share ideas, do activities and visits as well as enjoy occasional guest speakers.

Last year the group wrote ‘Aging on our Terms’ booklet and made a film sharing their experiences (see our linktree). They also helped host Furzedown’s fantastic Pride Event in June.

The group is a mix of very relaxed, warm, and friendly people and open to anyone over 50 who wants to join The Project!

Managing Long Term Health Conditions - this free therapy session is in The Project on Wednesday 29th July, from 10am to 12noon.

Our series of Talking Therapies for Older Adults are led by specialist health care NHS professionals, and are open to all the community, not just Project members!

There are three other sessions on Wednesday 4th, 11th and 18th of August, covering topics like coping with loneliness and emotional wellbeing.

All these group sessions are FREE and include refreshments. In addition, there are FREE one-to-one wellbeing sessions available for those who would benefit from personalised support.

This is not a drop In session (because of privacy) so please book by popping into The Project or email [email protected] - and please tell anyone who you know could benefit and who lives in Wandsworth to contact us!

Please support Project Cool!

We are a cool bunch of course, but we are struggling to cope with the extremes of temperature, especially in our reception area, where people meet up to chat and have free computer access.

Our volunteer receptionists are really suffering, as in the afternoon bright sunlight floods the area and it becomes unbearably hot. We'd like to get an awning that covers the front entrance and shade reception.

On Saturday 18th July we’ll be holding our summer Fayre outside the Project on Moyser Road, from 10am to 2pm

We’ll have lots of goodies on sale, including cute hand-made toys and knitwear, jewellery, bric-a-brac (including an ice-cream maker, wedding hats and a beautiful handmade bed spread) and lots of home baked yummy treats. As well as the chance to win in our raffle.

Money raised will go to support our work, we currently need help to keep cool - and we hope to get awning to shade our reception & computer area.
