This Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating the incredible people who give their time, skills, and enthusiasm to support our students.

Steve has been volunteering with us by running photography sessions, helping students learn new skills, build confidence, and express themselves creatively. From exploring local parks to capturing colourful plants and special moments, students have embraced the opportunity to see the world through a different lens.

Volunteering has had a positive impact on Steve too. He says it has helped him reconnect with creativity, build new connections and reengage with the world.

💬 'I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the students. Together, we’ve had great fun looking at the world in different ways, capturing its beauty (sometimes in unexpected places), and sharing our adventures with others.'

Steve's story is a wonderful example of how sharing a skill can create meaningful experiences for disabled adults while also enriching the lives of volunteers themselves.

Big thanks to Steve, and to all our volunteers for everything you do. ❤️

It's Volunteers' Week and time to say a huge thank you to all our wonderful volunteers at Share who selflessly give us their time, compassion and expertise. Without them we simply couldn't do what we do!

People like Alex, who volunteered on our Out and About project this year. Our tutor said, 'It was such a joy having Alex in the class. Not only was it helpful having an extra pair of hands, but she built unique and genuine relationships with each student. Alex took the time to get to know their interests and sense of humour, as well as the things they find challenging and the ways they like to be supported.

'She has been a consistently warm, patient and enthusiastic presence in every session.'

Reflecting on her time volunteering, Alex said she 'can’t think of a better way to spend your time.'

Big thanks for your support, Alex!

Scorchio! 🌞 It’s been hot, but lovely weather for our horticulture students to spend some time at The Woodfield Pavilion on Tooting Common. Quite a contrast to our visit last December, when we planted fruit trees in the orchard.

It was lovely to come back to water and add woodchip mulch to the 30 young trees now taking root.

And special mention to Tomika’s bougie gloves, bringing a touch of style to the task 🤩

Huge respect to Share student Charlie who recently ran the HOKA Hackney Half Marathon in an impressive time of 02:29:09. What an amazing achievement! Charlie was super excited to tell us and share his photo, and we're incredibly proud, well done indeed! 👊🙌

Our health and wellbeing group have been exploring expressive art. It’s a powerful way to explore and express emotions, process feelings, and reduce stress, all through spontaneous creativity. It’s not about creating a perfect final piece; but more about enjoying the process, letting go, and seeing where your imagination takes you (although the finished results can be pretty spectacular too!).

We chatted about the connection between art and emotions before coming together to work in a group activity. With a huge sheet of paper stretched across the wall, paint and colouring pens at the ready, and music playing in the background, everyone was encouraged to freely create whatever came naturally.

As our tutor Holly said, ‘This is a space to let your feelings move.’

A fun, freeing, and creative session with some brilliant results! ✨

A huge thank you to Officer Howard from Wandsworth Police for visiting us today.

Our students had a really informative session all about staying safe in the community. We spoke about things like:

✅ Staying safe on buses
✅ Crossing the road safely
✅ Knowing when to call 999 and when to use the non-emergency 101 number
✅ What to do if someone threatens you or tries to steal your mobile phone
✅ The importance of keeping mobile phones safely tucked away
✅ Listening out for quiet electric cars and general road safety awareness

The key message throughout the session was personal safety and making smart choices to keep yourself safe. 👊

We learnt so much from the visit. Thank you again, Officer Howard, for such an important and valuable session!

Earlier this week, we were delighted to attend the Culturally Mindful celebration event at Springfield Hospital, recognising the incredible work delivered through the programme so far. Culturally Mindful is a creative health residency and training project and part of the Welcome to Wandsworth London Borough of Culture programme.

We joined the host organisations and talented Global Majority artists who supported the programme, and explored the inspiring exhibition showcasing work created throughout the project.

Our contribution focused on enhancing wellbeing through movement and improvisation. We shared highlights from our movement workshops delivered by performer Youyang Song, and spoke about the positive impact these sessions had on our students.

Through the workshops, we saw our students growing in confidence and creative curiosity. The sessions were all about letting go of inhibitions, having fun, and enjoying new experiences together.

Sachelle shared that she enjoyed working with the group and trying new things, while Joyce said the workshops helped her feel closer to her classmates.

We’re so excited to continue this journey through the legacy programme of London Borough of Culture 2025 and can't wait to see what comes next! 👏

Thank you to everyone at the Paradise Cooperative garden which our gardening students visited recently. We had a wonderful time taking part in workshops which included making ‘bird shops’. These are balls of wool, twigs and other materials to hang in trees for birds to collect for their nests. This is important for birds in urban areas where there’s not as much natural material about, and especially during the Spring breeding season.

We also sowed seeds to grow salad which students got to take home using recycled fruit punnets. Always lovely to be outdoors, especially as Spring is emerging! 🌱☺️
