Zendeh delan literally translates to “awakened hearts.” The ensemble is made up of students of Sufism who have come together to learn and share their experiences through music and to collectively create contemporary Sufi music, under the guidance of Professor Nader Angha, the Sufi Master of MTO Shahmaghsoudi® School of Islamic Sufism®.

In 2008, we gathered in Dallas in the same spirit of connection, remembrance and love, before this journey had fully taken shape as MTO Zendeh Delan.

Eighteen years later, we are back in Dallas as we prepare to bring our interpretation of Attar’s The Conference of the Birds on 24 May 2026.

A few behind the scenes moments from Yale University, where MTO Zendeh Delan was invited to share Sufi music, poetry and Sama’ at Marquand Chapel as part of the Yale Institute of Sacred Music symposium, “Sufism & Music: Lived Practice, Diverse Sounds, and Inaudible Links.”

From preparation and rehearsal to an evening of remembrance and inner listening, this gathering held a very special place in our hearts.
