I have ensured patients with a wide variety of cardiothoracic surgery and general surgery problems incorporating all aspects of elective and emergency care. I managed patients in the setting of an attending physician with responsibility for the day- to-day clinical patient care of both elective and emergency specialty cases. Working as a senior resident in Verona Hospital, well known as a national center for heart transplants with performs approximately 1200 cardiothoracic surgeries per year and 700 general surgeries per year. During my posting a senior resident at Verona Hospital, I received valuable exposure in the management of complex general and cardiovascular surgical patients wherein I performed advanced procedures such as open and laparoscopic colectomies, anterior resections (AR), cardiovascular surgery, thoracic emergencies, cardiac and pulmonary cancer as well as managing general surgical and vascular emergencies in the setting of a senior resident led service. Performing the services of a senior resident, I am in charge of the weekly ward meeting, an active participant in the multi-disciplinary cancer and IBD meeting, contribute to the weekly departmental radiology meeting and assist with the monthly morbidity and morality audit. In summary, I have excelled in training as a skilled independent operator with extensive clinical and operative experience in all facets of general and cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. I have performed more than 1500 surgeries covering pediatric as well as adult cardiac surgery and thoracic surgery transplantation, rneal and liver transplantation. Formally assigned by the Cardiac Surgical Department of Verona and L’Aquila to teach medical students from general medicine of surgery. While working in orthopedics assistant L’Aquila Hospital, I was actively involved in the teaching of 3rd and 4th year students from L’Aquila weeks with power point presentations, bedside examinations and tutorials in St. Salvator General Hospital. I was also involved in delivering tutorials to 4th year medical students. During my training in Verona, I was a tutor for the 4th and 5th year medical students in Verona Medical School. This involved case based teaching and bedside tutorials in preparation for the exit examinations. I was also a lecturer (Anatomy) for nursing students in L’Aquila. Responsible for the surgical training and development of junior surgeons in L’Aquila Hospital directly supervising operative procedures, patient management and subsequent case based discuss in addition to helping prepare candidates for the exit examination.
