Chain of Hope It is estimated that as many as 15 million children die or remain severely ill every year through potentially treatable or preventable cardiac diseases.

Chain of Hope exists to provide children affected by life-threatening heart disease with the treatment to which they very often simply do not have access, by developing sustainable cardiac centres where they are most needed. Chain of Hope was established in 1996 under the initiative of Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, OM, FRS, with the aim of providing children suffering from life threatening heart dis

ease with the corrective surgery and treatment to which they do not have access. Chain of Hope is an international children’s charity that links people and companies together to help children with heart disease in developing and war-torn countries to get the care that they desperately need. Linking volunteer medical teams, host families and supporters, we work together to treat children in urgent need and to build up local cardiac services through training, provision of equipment and specialised support. We help children with heart disease both by transporting them to partnering hospitals for urgent treatment and by building up cardiac services in developing countries so that future generations will have access to the treatment they need locally. With your help we can save even more children's lives. Chain of Hope is a registered charity in the UK No. 1081384 and a limited company No. 3933420

This week, on our mission to Jamaica at the Jamaica Children’s Heart Centre in partnership with Gift of Life International & Chain of Hope Jamaica eight children have had their little hearts mended through life-saving cardiac treatment led by Chain of Hope’s Trustee Professor Victor Tsang and Dr Sherard Little.

As we celebrate 30 years of mending hearts in Jamaica, we were also honoured to welcome former patients back to the centre. These inspiring young people and their families shared their stories of courage, resilience and hope, demonstrating the lasting impact of the care they received in the years gone by.

Seven years after opening, the Jamaica Children’s Heart Centre has treated more than 400 children through both catheter-based interventions and open-heart surgery, creating a lasting legacy and transforming the lives of generations of Jamaican children

For more than 15 years, Gift of Life International has played a transformative role in helping children with heart disease in Jamaica access life-saving cardiac care.

Through a remarkable partnership between Gift of Life International, Chain of Hope UK, Chain of Hope Jamaica, Rotary International, and numerous Rotary clubs around the world, hundreds of children have received the cardiac treatment they desperately needed.

Together, they have invested in critical infrastructure and medical equipment for Jamaica’s first dedicated paediatric cardiac centre, including operating tables, operating lights, and, most significantly, the island’s first-ever paediatric catheterisation laboratory.

Through a Rotary International matching grant developed by Gift of Life International, with contributions from Chain of Hope UK and Shaggy & Friends, a state-of-the-art US$1.5 million catheterisation lab was purchased and installed at Bustamante Hospital for Children.

Gift of Life International continues to support the local team by funding visiting specialist medical teams, ensuring children have access to world-class cardiac care.

Chain of Hope Jamaica extends its sincere gratitude to Gift of Life International CEO, Rob Raylman, for his leadership, vision, and unwavering dedication to this project.

Meet Shamoya👋🇯🇲

This week on our mission to Jamaica in partnership with Gift of Life International and Chain of Hope Jamaica, four-year-old Shamoya received life-saving surgery at the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

Shamoya underwent treatment for a AVSD repair which was led by Chain of Hope Trustee and Volunteer Surgeon Professor Victor Tsang and Dr Sherard Little.

Shamoya’s mother noticed that she was struggling with shortness of breath at birth and at four-months-old was diagnosed with an AVSD (Atrioventricular Septal Defect)

A AVSD is where there is an abnormal opening in the center of the heart and problems with the valves that separate the heart’s chambers.

Shamoya has dreams of becoming a police officer when she grows up, and thanks to the care and expertise of our Medical Volunteers her dream can one day become reality.

Thanks to your incredible support, Shamoya has been given the chance to enjoy a healthy future alongside her family.

Meet Kalani 👋🇯🇲

This week on our mission to Jamaica in partnership with Gift of Life International and Chain of Hope Jamaica, Kalani received life-saving surgery at the Bustamante Hospital for Children. This mission marks 30 years of Chain of Hope mending hearts in Jamaica. 🇯🇲

Three-year-old Kalani underwent treatment for a VSD closure which was led by Chain of Hope Trustee and Volunteer Surgeon Professor Victor Tsang and Dr Sherard Little.

Soon after his life-saving surgery, he was outside playing with his toy cars and bubbles with Medical Volunteer nurses Rachael Morrison and Christina Wottig. Kalani even shared his toy cars with another Chain of Hope patient, Elijah, who had also received life-saving surgery on the same day. ❤️

Kalani loves to play the drums and ride his bike when he’s not at school enjoying his favourite subjects reading and art. His dream one day is to become a doctor, just like those that have helped mend his little heart this week.

As a result of the expertise and care of our Medical Volunteers working alongside the local cardiac team, Kalani’s dream can now one day become a reality.

Thanks you to you, our generous supporters, Kalani and his family can now look forward to a happy and healthy future.
