Yesterday, our community lost someone truly special.
It is with great sadness that I share the passing of our dear June Dodds, who passed away yesterday surrounded by her two children, Karen and Graham, whom she loved so dearly.
June was so much more than a resident of Peckwater. She was a neighbour to so many, a dear friend, and someone who gave so much of herself to the community she called home.
Everyone around here knew June. She had been part of Peckwater for so many years, raising her own family here and helping to shape the community that generations of families have grown up in.
June was part of the journey that led to the NW5 Project being built, and she shared so many stories with us about those early days — how the community raised money, worked with the council and fought to create a space that local families could enjoy and call their own.
She also dedicated so much of her time to the TRA hall and the football pitch, always wanting the best for the people around her and always willing to help.
I have so many words I want to write about June, but I honestly don’t think words could ever fully explain what she meant to this community or to those of us lucky enough to know her.
Peckwater will never be quite the same without June.
But the work we continue to do for our community, we will now do with her memory in our hearts. Her contribution to Peckwater, the stories she shared and the difference she made will not be forgotten.
Above everything, June loved her family and loved her life on Peckwater. She was one of the kindest, most helpful neighbours you could ask for, and she leaves behind a legacy in this community that will live on for many years to come.
My thoughts and deepest condolences are with everyone who knew and loved June, but especially with Karen and Graeme at this incredibly difficult time.
Rest peacefully, June ❤️
Thank you for everything you did for Peckwater. You will be deeply missed, but you will never be forgotten.
