We are so grateful to Seventh for supporting us through their incredible project “I Am Because We Are”, an editorial short film blending fashion, music, and community impact created in partnership with director Jamal Burger; founder of and .
Seventh founder Bukki Ojo and Sheila Maurice-Grey of Kokoroko met at Bloco when they were teenagers and are just 2 of the 15,000 young people we have worked with over the past 25 years. They are incredible advocates and an inspiring example of how to support the next generation.❤️
Bukki shared that after joining our summer school “for the first time [I] was able to explore myself creatively in a completely new way; at no cost. From such a young age, I got a glimpse of what a creative career could look like. That kind of exposure is rare. You don’t just stumble across it, especially not where I’m from. Even though I didn’t become a dancer, Kinetika helped me find my creative path. It gave me expression, and that’s what matters most. That’s what this charity has been doing for 25 years.”
Our aim has always been to create an environment where young people can come and be a part of something that is a bit bigger than them; giving them inspiration, experience, role models, ambition and support to develop in life. We have seen over the years that when young people become part of a community like this, a family as we call it, they not only grow in their creativity but they also grow in their understanding about giving back and supporting the next generation.
We’re looking forward to the private screening of the short film which is taking place on Tuesday (!!), in partnership with at Everyman Cinema, hosted by BAFTA Rising Star award winner , with a live panel featuring director , our very own rench, , and 🎬🎙️
We want to say thank you for shining a light on us and the young people and creatives we get to work with, and for being so generous with your time, talent and support.
“I Am Because We Are.”🌟
