Kinetika Bloco

Kinetika Bloco Youth Organisation - Professionals and Young people coming together to create a spectacular show of l Just so you know, the fun doesn't stop at summer school.

The Kinetika Bloco is a performance group with an exuberant mix of young brass and woodwind players, drummers and dynamic dancers all in costume creating a unique new British Carnival sound with a decidedly London edge. We draw our influences from the Caribbean, Brazil, West and Southern Africa, New Orleans jazz, Funk and Hip Hop. Our members create the work with a team of professional tutors and

help to lead the organization. In the last few years we have represented London as part of the 'Beijing 2008' Olympic Cultural Festival, as well as performing at the London Jazz Festival, Thames Festival, The South Bank and at the Unveiling of the Nelson Mandela Statue at Parliament Square. Your membership in the Bloco can last for a year....or forever! The show we create is normally toured throughout the year, so if you've attended the summer school, you will be invited to performances!

We were so honoured last night to celebrate the premiere of ‘I Am Because We Are’.

The film created by and from celebrates our young people and the legacy of Kinetika Bloco on her and ’s journey. It has been so inspiring to see her passion, and a joy to experience the support and generosity of the whole Seventh Team, and the brilliant Director from . We also got to meet Executive Producer who is a delight!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out and supported, to all of the team who worked on it, all the people who donated (which you can still do, link in our bio!), all those who offered their help in the future, and all of our young people who are the reason we do what we do.

We are so grateful to Seventh for supporting us through their incredible project “I Am Because We Are”, an editorial short film blending fashion, music, and community impact created in partnership with director Jamal Burger; founder of and .

Seventh founder Bukki Ojo and Sheila Maurice-Grey of Kokoroko met at Bloco when they were teenagers and are just 2 of the 15,000 young people we have worked with over the past 25 years. They are incredible advocates and an inspiring example of how to support the next generation.❤️

Bukki shared that after joining our summer school “for the first time [I] was able to explore myself creatively in a completely new way; at no cost. From such a young age, I got a glimpse of what a creative career could look like. That kind of exposure is rare. You don’t just stumble across it, especially not where I’m from. Even though I didn’t become a dancer, Kinetika helped me find my creative path. It gave me expression, and that’s what matters most. That’s what this charity has been doing for 25 years.”

Our aim has always been to create an environment where young people can come and be a part of something that is a bit bigger than them; giving them inspiration, experience, role models, ambition and support to develop in life. We have seen over the years that when young people become part of a community like this, a family as we call it, they not only grow in their creativity but they also grow in their understanding about giving back and supporting the next generation.

We’re looking forward to the private screening of the short film which is taking place on Tuesday (!!), in partnership with at Everyman Cinema, hosted by BAFTA Rising Star award winner , with a live panel featuring director , our very own rench, , and 🎬🎙️

We want to say thank you for shining a light on us and the young people and creatives we get to work with, and for being so generous with your time, talent and support.

As of January 2026, BBC Children in Need funds more than 1,600 projects across the UK — and we are proud that Kinetika Bloco is one of them.

We are incredibly grateful to BBC Children in Need for the funding and continued support they provide to organisations like ours, enabling young people to access creative opportunities, trusted support networks, and spaces where they can grow in confidence and connection.

Through a commitment to early action, prevention, and lasting impact, BBC Children in Need supports local organisations that provide counselling, therapeutic support, mentoring, creative expression, and peer connection for children and young people across the UK.
Kinetika Bloco falls under their creative, physical, and outdoor activities programmes, helping to reduce anxiety, build confidence, and create meaningful opportunities through music, movement, and community participation.

More than 124,000 children have reported an improvement in their emotional wellbeing through BBC Children in Need-funded projects, highlighting the importance of continued investment in trusted early support for young people across the UK.

Thank you once again to for the funding and support we receive from you!❤️

We are excited to announce that we have some new Trustees joining our Board. Femi Koleoso will become our new Co-Chair and Mark Kavuma of Banger Factory Records, and Bukki Ojo of Seventh are joining as Trustees. Sadly, Nicholai La Barrie has had to step down due to increased work commitments.

He has led us so well through this last decade of growth and development, and we are incredibly grateful for all his support. Our ethos has always been to grow our own leaders and ensure that the people who we serve at Kinetika Bloco are represented throughout the structure of the organisation. This is important especially at a Board level and so we are thrilled that Femi, Mark and Bukki, who all participated in Kinetika Bloco, will be able to bring their huge skills and experience to help in this next season of growth.

“It has been an honour to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees and it is with great pride that I welcome Bukki, Mark, and new Co-Chair Femi. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Kinetika Bloco. It has been a profound privilege to be part of this family.” ~ Nicholai La Barrie

“I’m really grateful to see how I can pour what Kinetika Bloco poured into me, into young people for the future. I’m deeply honoured and proud to be working with this incredible charity.” ~ Femi Koleoso
