🎉 Nominations are now open for the LawWorks Pro Bono Awards 2026!

Each year, the Awards celebrate outstanding legal pro bono work and recognise the individuals and organisations whose commitment, innovation and collaboration are helping to widen access to justice.

This year, nominations are open across 14 award categories, recognising contributions from firms, in-house teams, junior lawyers, individuals, clinics, partnerships and pro bono programmes across England and Wales and internationally.

✨ Among this year’s categories is the newly introduced Partner for Justice Award, celebrating outstanding law firm partners who have demonstrated a powerful commitment to pro bono service and played an instrumental role in expanding access to justice and strengthening their firm’s dedication to pro bono.

Firms, in-house teams, organisations, clinics and individuals can nominate themselves or others, with a separate nomination required for each category.

🏆 The winners will be celebrated at the LawWorks Pro Bono Awards ceremony on Thursday 3 December 2026 at The Law Society.

📅 Nominations close at 11:59pm on Monday 28 September 2026.

📈 Demand for free legal advice is rising and legal clinics across England and Wales are working harder than ever to meet it. Nearly two-thirds of clinics reported increased demand in 2025, and more than 81,000 people received advice, information or support through the LawWorks Clinics Network.

From housing and employment issues to family matters and debt, people are increasingly turning to clinics for help navigating complex legal challenges. Behind this support are thousands of dedicated volunteers whose time, expertise and commitment help make access to justice possible.

Free Legal Answers is open to any solicitor with two or more years' post-qualification experience (PQE) and a current practising certificate who is committed to pro bono.

📢 We are delighted to launch the LawWorks Clinics Network Report 2025!

The report provides an insight into activity across the LawWorks Clinics Network during 2025, highlighting the growing demand for free legal advice and the vital role pro bono clinics continue to play in improving access to justice.

Here are some of the key findings from this year's report:
📈 106,391 enquiries
⚖️ 81,743 people supported
🙋‍♀️15,674 volunteers
🏢 317 clinics across England and Wales

As demand for free legal advice continues to grow, the report demonstrates both the extraordinary impact of pro bono clinics and the increasing pressures they face. A huge thank you to every clinic, volunteer and organisation whose commitment makes this work possible.

✨Yesterday evening, LawWorks was delighted to host a reception at the House of Commons with our Chair, Lord Goldsmith KC.

We were honoured to hear from Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy and Sarah Sackman KC MP, whose remarks highlighted the importance of pro bono and its role in strengthening access to justice. We were delighted that Minister Sackman shared her experience of working with LawWorks to establish a pro bono legal advice clinic in her constituency, Finchely and Golders Green, where they had previously been no advice provision available.

The evening brought together colleagues from across the legal sector, including representatives from The Law Society, Solicitors Regulation Authority, Ministry of Justice UK, member law firms, in-house legal teams and law schools.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and for your continued commitment to expanding access to justice across England and Wales.

Are you a solicitor with a current practising certificate, interested in using your time and expertise to help members of the public access free legal advice?

LawWorks’ Clinics Programme supports a network of over 300 independent pro bono legal advice clinics across England and Wales. These clinics offer essential legal assistance to individuals who might otherwise be unable to obtain it. Volunteer solicitors typically provide advice in key areas of social welfare law, including family, employment, housing, immigration, and welfare benefits.

⚖️ What happens when an MP’s office starts seeing more and more constituents facing legal problems, but nowhere local to send them for help?

For the team at Finchley & Golders Green, the answer was simple: build something themselves.

In this new piece for LawWorks, Jack Lubner, Parliamentary Researcher in the Office of Sarah Sackman, shares how the Finchley Free Legal Advice Centre came to life, from finding volunteer lawyers and building local partnerships, to navigating the realities of launching a clinic from scratch.

The article is part reflection, part practical guide, and shows how MPs’ offices and local legal communities can work together to create accessible, community-led legal support where it’s needed most.

⭐ We were proud to celebrate the winners of the 2026 LawWorks and Attorney General’s Student Pro Bono Awards, kindly sponsored by LexisNexis UK.

The awards recognise the exceptional pro bono work being carried out by law students and law schools across the UK, and the vital role they are already playing in expanding access to justice.

From student-led clinics to innovative community projects, the commitment, care and creativity on display was a powerful reminder that the future of the legal profession is already showing up for those who need it most.
