Tender’s Youth Board contributed to our response to the Government’s Growing Up in an Online World consultation, which was shaped through a VAWG and healthy relationships lens. The response drew on a survey of 176 young people, alongside wider external research.

Youth Board member Gaia reflects on what we heard from young people and the support they would like to help them make safer, more informed choices.

Adolescence co-creator Jack Thorne and producer Jo Johnson have joined Tender as charity Ambassadors! 💛

Jack Thorne is a playwright and BAFTA-winning screenwriter whose work includes This is England, Toxic Town and recent Channel 4 drama, Falling. He commented:
‘Tender is a remarkable organisation dedicated to creating difficult conversation. But the amazing thing about it is it makes that difficult conversation seem easy. By opening up paths to challenge behaviour, it creates portholes which prevent damage coming in. I’m so honoured to play a small part in their mission, and will keep shouting about the immense value of their work.’

Jo Johnson is an experienced producer working across a wide range of television dramas. including Disney+ series A Thousand Blows and Channel 4 drama Ackley Bridge. Jo said: ‘I did not hesitate to say yes when asked to be an ambassador for Tender. It is a huge honour. What they do is crucial. I look forward to using my voice to help promote their amazing work.’

We are so thrilled to welcome Jack Thorne and Jo Johnson into the Tender community. We look forward to our new Ambassadors’ support in reaching as many young people as we can with vital relationships education.

This , here’s a little reminder that support can come in many forms. Sometimes, just one conversation with someone you trust – a parent, carer, teacher, coach, sibling, friend, youth worker or neighbour – can make all the difference 💚

A few snapshots from an inspiring workshop! From thoughtful questions to confident performances, these young people were brilliant in challenging ideas and exploring what healthy relationships look like.

After the workshop, one of the students told us:
'I like how it's very interactive for everyone and it's nice to know that anything we say won't be judged.'

With your support, we can facilitate these conversations in more schools. Donate to Tender – https://tender.enthuse.com/donate/ #!/

Tender’s new KS1 Healthy Friendships Programme has officially launched, and we just had our first adventure!

This new programme explores the same core themes as our upper primary work but more gently, through the medium of storytelling. Over two days, the children travelled to the Island of Friendship, helping characters navigate choices and ‘fix’ poor decisions.

Tender’s Head of Curriculum and Growth, Sarah, was delighted to see this new programme come to life:

‘It was great to see them light up, get curious, and really care about the journey we were taking them on. This work gives children a world they care about, and the chance to practice healthy friendship behaviours in an unthreatening space. As one child put it: “I liked making our own world and then fixing it.”

If we want children to grow up with the skills to build safe, respectful relationships, with the ultimate aim of preventing domestic abuse, we have to start early—and there’s no better time than KS1, before unhealthy behaviours have become embedded.’

Who wants to join us in an adventure through the Island of Friendships? 🏝💛

'Art is like a magic power when it comes to engaging young people. Having fun, playing games, laughing and creating together builds confidence and provides an unjudgmental, supportive environment for learning.' - Angharad, Tender North Programme Manager
