Football Beyond Borders Our vision is of an education system where every young person has a trusted adult by their side throughout secondary school.

FBB supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who are passionate about football but disengaged at school in order to help them finish school with the skills and grades to make a successful transition into adulthood. We do this by providing long-term, intensive support, built around relationships and young people’s passions, in the classroom and beyond.

What did you struggle with when you were 13 years old?

Broadcaster, journalist and former Blue Peter presenter has spent his career telling other people’s stories. In Episode 3 of The Shape Up, he shares some of his own.

Joining Kassius, Sheikh, Sultan, Durelle and Kai from Our Lady and St Chad Catholic Academy, alongside FBB practitioners Ezekiel Agyemang and Fiona Stebbing, Ayo reflects on the experiences that shaped him while listening to the hopes, challenges and perspectives of the next generation.

Together, they explore identity, stereotypes, ambition and what it means to stay true to yourself in a world full of expectations.

Some conversations stay with you long after the cameras stop rolling.

This summer, we transformed a barbershop in South London into a space where generations could come together to talk honestly about masculinity, identity, belonging and the people who shape us.

These moments are a glimpse behind the scenes of Episode 1 of The Shape Up with Ian Wright, young people from The Magna Carta School, and FBB practitioners Amy McDonald and Rafi Pavez-Hind.

What would it look like to take conversations about masculinity beyond the classroom?

For over five years, we’ve partnered with to deliver What Makes a Man – a classroom module that gives Year 8 boys space to explore identity, relationships and modern masculinity.

This year, we wanted to take those conversations somewhere different.

We kept coming back to the barbershop: a place rooted in community and honest conversation.

Somewhere generations naturally come together to share stories, advice and life experiences.

The result is The Shape Up – a new three-part series from Football Beyond Borders in collaboration with Gillette.

For Episode 1, joins Marcel, Shawn, Alfie and Max from , alongside FBB practitioners Amy McDonald and Rafi Pavez-Hind, for an open conversation about role models, rejection, confidence and what it means to be a man today.

We’re so proud of what came together in a little barbershop in South London this summer and we’re proud to share it with you.

What does it mean to be a man today?

The Shape Up is a new three-part series from Football Beyond Borders in collaboration with bringing boys and role models together for honest conversations about identity, masculinity, belonging and the experiences that shape us.

Set in a South London barbershop, the series takes the conversations we’ve been having with young people for over five years out of the classroom and into a space rooted in community and connection.

Across three episodes, , and sit down with young people from Football Beyond Borders to talk openly about confidence, pressure, friendship, football, role models and growing up today.

At a time when many boys have fewer spaces to access community and trusted role models, The Shape Up is an invitation to listen, reflect and start conversations that matter.
