Wheels for Wellbeing

Wheels for Wellbeing A Disabled people’s cycling organisation campaigning for equity in cycling, , multimodal journeys, and mobility justice.

Wheels for Wellbeing is a Disabled people’s cycling organisation. We campaign for equitable access to cycling, active travel and multi-modal journeys for Disabled people and we call for mobility justice for all Disabled people. We are a national charity supporting people of all ages, disabilities and health conditions to cycle, both current Disabled cyclists, and Disabled people who would like to

cycle but encounter obstacles. Whatever impairment, long term health condition or disability you have, we can help with your cycle query. If you live locally to our bases in south London, you may be able to come to our cycling sessions: http://www.wheelsforwellbeing.org.uk/sessions

People come to us for a variety of reasons. They may be a first time cyclist and want to try it out; they may have lost their confidence and want to build that up again; they may want to take part in regular sessions with others, or they may want to ultimately purchase their own bike and take one-to-one lessons so they feel more confident cycling on the road. They may cycle for pleasure, for exercise. It may be a way of commuting or getting out and about. Or they may just want to feel the wind in their hair.

It’s Bike week! And to mark the occasion we are launching the second of three free CPD webinars to accompany the 5th edition of The Guide to Inclusive Cycling. This webinar focuses on infrastructure as a key barrier and enabler to making cycling accessible for everyone and is a must watch for anyone who wants to make cycling everyone’s first choice for transport. The webinars and Guide are all free to download, with thanks to the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund for supporting this work.

We are so proud to be able to offer free cycle loans to people like Ossie, through our Wheels4Me scheme. As we enter our final months of this pilot project, if you or anyone you know could benefit from a trial of one of our many non-standard cycles, explore what is on offer and get in touch today at wheels4me.co.uk!

Ossie always thought cycling wasn’t for him. Living in London with Cerebral Palsy, his balance had always been a barrier to cycling. But the Wheels4Me project gave him the freedom to join the thousands of people he sees cycling every day.

The Wheels4Me project ends in July 2026, and we want as many people as possible to experience the benefits before it finishes.

We love hearing back from our clients about what the chance to trial a non-standard cycle has meant for them.

Melissa from Newham told us:
'I didn't think I'd be able to do so much enjoyable cycling or go the distances I managed. The bike allowed me to engage in a fun activity, get outside in the fresh air and feel a huge sense of achievement whilst really enjoying myself! The full electric support mode and comfortable seat meant I not needed minimal energy to ride, meaning I could cycle for the first time in years without feeling unwell. I've found a new freedom and passion I didn't think was possible, thanks to this scheme.'

𝗔 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴

For the first time in over 10 years, our session fee will be changing.

From 1 June 2026, increasing from £5 to £𝟳 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿. PAs, carers and supporters will continue to attend free of charge.

We have tried to avoid increasing our prices for as long as possible, but the costs of running our sessions have continued to rise. Each hour now costs us over £15 per participant to provide, so even with this increase, every session will still be heavily subsidised.

We continue to apply for grants and support from funders to help cover the difference. However, like many charities, it is becoming harder to secure funding in the current climate. We also rely on donations from individuals and companies to help keep our sessions running and accessible.

If you are able to contribute the full cost of a session or support additional attendees, please consider also making a donation when you book

If you know anyone who is looking for a charity to support, we would be very grateful if you could suggest Wheels for Wellbeing. Donations can be made through our website, or by contacting us on 020 7346 8482.
We understand that any increase in cost can be difficult. If the new session fee will cause you concern or make it harder for you to attend, please contact us to discuss.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
