Free heart health event - open to all

The BEAT Acronym (Breathless? Exhausted? Ankles Swollen? Time to Test) is a call to action for people to attend for a FREE heart health check. Residents over 40 can drop in without an appointment on the day.

The event is funded and coordinated by Pumping Marvelous, a national heart failure charity, with the support of the cardiology team from the University Hospitals Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, NHS Cheshire & Merseyside and Liverpool City Council Public Health.

People over 40 may receive some information about the event from their GP Practice.

Please do share with residents, service users, staff etc and encourage to attend for a health check 😊

Our Team and numerous friends and colleagues joined the ALM Choir and volunteers and staff of Asylum Link Merseyside to say a fond farewell to Ewan yesterday... and boy did the Choir do him proud!

From all at Merseyside Refugee Support Network past and present - thank you for your kindness, commitment and help to so many thousands of sanctuary seekers over the past 21 years. You can hang up your hat with pride. Time for you now, so…“absconde mala intra sarcinam, et subride!

Don't let politics get your blood pressure up... come and see us if you need to check!

Through our wellbeing work and Community Champions, we want our clients, staff and volunteers to "Know their Numbers".

Alongside our refugee move-on and integration support we can check your blood pressure too.

The asylum system is changing rapidly and causes significant stress and anxiety. People need support especially when they get granted refugee status.

Drop-in for practical support @9.30am Monday to Thursdays.

From Liveepool Echo.Sefton student secures dream medical degree spot amid family heartbreak in Gaza. 👏🎉

Abdulaziz Alkidra arrived at Sefton Sixth Form College student nearly an hour before doors opened for A-Level students to collect their results this morning. ⏰

The wait was worth it after he walked away with an impressive AAB from the subjects he has spent two years studying. 📝

In the coming weeks, he will be moving to York to study at the Hull York Medical School. 😷💉

When the ECHO visited the college this morning, Abdulaziz said: "This day, this achievement is bigger than just me getting into university, it's a symbol of hope.

"My family's from Gaza, we've been through a lot. To come here, and to finally be able to make my family proud, getting into a university like this, it's something that's very very meaningful to me. Medicine is my meaning in life, I couldn't ask for more."

Growing up in the UAE, Abdulaziz moved over to the UK in 2018 and originally studied at King's Leadership Academy Hawthornes before moving to Sefton Sixth Form College for his A-Levels.

The ongoing conflict in his dad's home country has weighed heavy on his mind throughout his time at college. 💔

He said: "It's really not been easy. It's really not easy, because every other day, there's a whole list of all of my cousins that have passed away due to the conditions over there.

"You listen to the bad news, and you just have to make sure that you keep going, because they've made their sacrifices so I can be here to make them proud, and I can't let them down by giving up when they go through difficulties."

He hopes that the news of his good grades will bring a small glimmer of joy for his family in Gaza. ❤️

He said: "I'm so happy that I could finally deliver some great news to my family, I think it will mean more to them than it does to me."

Great work. Best of luck at medical school Abdulaziz. 👏

Today marks 75 years since the Refugee Convention was signed.

Born from the devastation of the Second World War, it established a simple but vital principle - that people fleeing persecution have the right to seek safety.

75 years on, that promise matters as much as ever. We believe everyone seeking sanctuary should be treated with dignity, compassion and fairness.
