WE ARE 49 YEARS TODAY.

Today we give thanks.

For 49 years, the African Caribbean Centre Liverpool has been more than a building. It has been a gathering place. A keeper of memory. A place where our culture could breathe, our elders could reason, our children could learn, and our community could find one another.

So this evening, before celebration, we begin as our people have always begun: by remembering.

At 7pm tonight, we will gather at the Centre for the Pouring of Libations — calling the names and honouring the lives of the ancestors, elders and community members whose hands, sacrifice and spirit brought us this far.

Bring your drum.
Bring a photograph.
Bring a story or memory.
Bring your intentions for what comes next.

We honour those who came before us, give thanks for those standing here now, and set our intentions for the generations still to come.

49 years. Past roots. Present strength. Future generations.

This October, we mark 49 years of the African Caribbean Centre Liverpool.

For nearly half a century, these walls have held our stories, our music, our struggles, our celebrations and our community.

Now, as we move towards 50 years, we come together to honour where we have been and set the intention for where we are going.

Today we gather beneath a changing sky.

As the Sun, Moon and Earth move into alignment, we invite you into a special evening of West African drumming, African & Caribbean ritual movement, food and community at the African Caribbean Centre.

We will explore the eclipse not simply as something to watch, but as a doorway into an ancient human conversation with darkness and light, endings and beginnings, balance and transformation.

Community Update

We want to make our community aware that there was an incident near the grounds of the African Caribbean Centre yesterday, while the Centre itself was closed.

At this point, we are still waiting to understand the full details. We do not want to encourage speculation, but we do believe it is important that our community hears from us directly.

We are cooperating to establish the facts and will provide a further update when we are in a position to do so.
