Nugent

Nugent Nugent is one of the oldest social care charities in the North West. We are the social welfare arm of the Archdiocese of Liverpool.

Nugent is an established 140 year old charity based in Liverpool, founded in 1881 by Father James Nugent. We offer a diverse range of support to adults and children who are vulnerable and at risk through our school, care homes, community and social work services and social enterprise.

Last week, our Volunteer Team hosted a Volunteer Coffee Morning, bringing together volunteers from across Nugent for a chance to connect, share experiences and meet others making a difference throughout our services.

Hosted by our Volunteer Coordinator, Lorna Masih, the morning was a small way of saying thank you for the time, commitment and compassion our volunteers give so generously. We were also delighted to be joined by Andrew Allen, Trustee, who had the opportunity to meet volunteers and hear more about the impact they make.

From supporting events and fundraising activities to helping within our services, volunteers play a vital role in helping us support people across the North West. Thank you to everyone who joined us and for all that you do.

📦 Moving out? Don't throw it away - donate it.

This summer, we're teaming up with Liverpool Hope University for our Moving Out campaign, helping students give their unwanted food a second purpose.

Donation bins will be available at the Gateway Building and Halls of Residence for students to donate unopened, non-perishable food items.

Every donation will help support people and families across the Liverpool City Region who are experiencing poverty and food insecurity, while also reducing unnecessary waste.

If you're moving out this summer, please consider donating something that could make a real difference to someone else.

Thank you to Liverpool Hope University and everyone taking part in this year's campaign!

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Mia at Lime House 🌟

Mia joined the volunteering team at Lime House a couple of months ago and is already growing in confidence while supporting residents during activity sessions. 💜

She shared: “I like helping and listening to the residents that just want a chat.”

Mia began her volunteering journey feeling quite nervous, but she’s doing brilliantly and is quickly getting to know everyone and finding her place within the team.

Volunteering at Lime House has also given Mia valuable experience and insight into a social care setting, supporting her future plans as she prepares to apply for university. 🙌

A fantastic example of how volunteering can build confidence, skills and connections.

On Saturday, Keith Wilde, Executive Director - Pathways, attended the Catholic Medical Association Conference in Birmingham, joining colleagues from healthcare, social care and the voluntary sector to explore the role faith plays in supporting people and communities.

As part of the programme, Keith shared more about Nugent’s work across the North West, our Imagine Our World strategy, and our commitment to providing a lifelong pathway of support for the people we support and our communities. The conference provided an important opportunity to discuss the challenges facing the sector, the need for long-term, person-centred support, and the unique contribution faith-based organisations can make in helping people thrive.

A particular highlight was hearing from Joanne Watters, Chief Executive of Father Hudson’s Caritas, who spoke about the impactful work being delivered across the Archdiocese of Birmingham to support children, families, older people, refugees, people experiencing homelessness and adults with disabilities. Their commitment to dignity, compassion and community was both inspiring and affirming.

Thank you to the Catholic Medical Association for hosting such a thought-provoking event and creating space for meaningful discussion on the future of care, support and social action.

Residents, families and colleagues at Lime House came together on Friday for an evening of cheese, wine and meaningful conversation about life in our home and the future we are building together.

The evening provided an opportunity to listen, share experiences and discuss ideas for the future. Our new manager, Lucy, spoke about her vision for Lime House, including creating a calm and supportive environment where every resident feels valued, understood and connected. From tailored activities and thoughtful key worker relationships to a strong focus on wellbeing, her commitment to person-centred support was warmly welcomed by those attending.

We were also delighted to welcome House of Memories, who shared a range of innovative dementia-friendly resources, including memory strolls, multisensory memory boxes and their popular "museum in your pocket" app. These tools offer new ways to support connection, conversation and reminiscence for people living with dementia.

A special thank you to Click Learning for sponsoring the evening and supporting important discussions around staffing, training and ensuring continuity of care for the people we support.

The event reflected what makes Lime House such a special community: people coming together, listening to one another and working in partnership to make a positive difference. We look forward to continuing these conversations and building on the ideas shared as we shape the future of the home together.

🌈 Pride Month 🌈

At Nugent we’re proud to stand with LGBTQ+ communities this Pride Month and every month.

We believe everyone should feel safe, respected, and able to be themselves in all our services and communities. Inclusion and dignity are at the heart of the support we provide.

This month is a reminder to celebrate diversity, reflect on progress, and continue working towards a fair and equal society for all.
