After all the kindness, unexpected lifts and brilliant people they met yesterday, we can’t wait to see what Day Two brings. Hopefully a little less travel drama… but where’s the fun in that? 😂

🏁 Day One… DONE!

Well, what a day it’s been for everyone taking part in ! 💙

For Jo and Keith, the day started in Liverpool and ended in Cardiff, with quite an adventure in between.

There have been clues to crack, miles to cover, lifts to find and probably more than a few moments of wondering “where on earth are we going next?” 😂🕵️

But one of the loveliest parts of Day One has been seeing the kindness of complete strangers.

💙 Blue Line Taxis in Hereford, who generously didn’t charge Jo and Keith for their journey.
💙 A man in a van who offered them a lift.
💙 And Neil who was simply waiting for his sandwich, heard about the challenge and offered them a lift in his truck!

You really couldn’t make some of it up! 😂

It’s certainly been a day of acts of kindness, human connection and people simply helping people. Faith in humanity restored.

A massive well done to Jo, Keith and everyone taking part in . 👏 We hope the feet aren’t too sore and the navigation skills have improved ready for Day Two! 😂

Destination Unknown: Day One of the Challenge!

Nugent’s Chief Executive, Jo Henney, and Executive Director of Pathways, Keith Wilde, are setting off today on a three-day Race for a Reason adventure in support of Alfie’s Squad 💙

They’re raising money and awareness to support children and young people bereaved by su***de, helping Alfie’s Squad provide friendship, understanding and support.

They’re already off and making great progress! With clues to crack, challenges to complete and secret checkpoints to find, who knows where the adventure will take them next?

With a limited travel budget, they may need a little help along the way. 🚗🚕🚉

If you spot Jo and Keith’s updates and you’re somewhere nearby ... or have contacts in the area, keep an eye out. They could be calling on friends and supporters across England, Wales and Scotland for local knowledge, transport contacts or even a lift!

On Saturday, Joanne Dobbie, Caritas Community & Engagement Manager, represented Nugent at Adoremus, a day of adoration, reconciliation and shared prayer, featuring a range of workshops exploring spirituality.

Nugent was proud to host a stand alongside organisations including CAFOD, Stella Maris and New Vision, providing a wonderful opportunity to connect with attendees, share information about our work, and highlight the positive impact of our services across communities.

The day featured workshops exploring prayer through art, Godly Play and spirituality, a Taizé prayer experience, a Franciscan Jubilee celebration, and a Romero Rosary led by the White Fathers. Attendees also took part in a Eucharistic Procession, the Blessing of the City, and a Vigil led by Archbishop John Sherrington.

The event also gave us the chance to raise awareness of our upcoming Light Up a Life services, which offer an opportunity during the festive season to pause, reflect and celebrate the lives of loved ones who are no longer with us.

This Christmas, too many children and young people across the Liverpool City Region could wake up without a gift to open. With your help, we can change that.

We're asking for donations of new, unopened toys and gifts for:
• Children aged 4-11
• Young people aged 11-16
• Suitable for all genders

From crisis to prevention: how do we build systems that support people before they reach crisis?

At this year’s Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, Nugent joined conversations about the future of social care, housing, health, education and community support, and the role each can play in creating lasting change.

Across discussions, one message came through clearly: prevention cannot be achieved by one organisation or sector working alone.

From our panel event with BB Partners exploring a lifelong national care service, to conversations around housing, regeneration, youth employment and public services, we continued to champion the importance of:

- Earlier intervention and prevention
- Stronger partnerships across sectors
- Joining up care, housing, health and community support
- Bringing lived experience and frontline expertise into decision-making
- Creating pathways that give people greater stability, independence and opportunity

As we deliver our Imagine Our World strategy, we will continue to advocate for systems built around people, not organisational boundaries, and work with our partners towards a future where everyone has the opportunity to flourish.
