Meet Ella from Purple Patch Arts! 👇

“I started coming to Purple Patch Arts in September 2019. I’ve been coming here for 6 years. I’m also part of the Purple Patch research group. And I’m on the Purple Patch Steering Group. So I help make decisions about what we do.

I come to the Lifelong Learning sessions every week. It’s a great way to make friends and I like to join in with the activities. I don’t really have a favourite activity. I like to do all of it. This year our theme is celebration. Today we’re talking about celebrating everyday things.

I like reading. I’m reading Escape from the Isle of the Lost. It’s a Descendents novel. It’s a fantasy book. That’s my favourite.”

Purple Patch Arts supports learning-disabled people to thrive and to be heard. They create environments where everyone is empowered to express themselves, and to engage with, and understand, themselves, other people and the world around them. They’ve had various grants from Leeds Community Foundation, including a Leeds Digital Inclusion Fund grant to support their lifelong learning programme.

"We work together in the community on wellbeing and mental health, with people of all ages, genders and races. We support people in their wellbeing, making them smile, making them feel happy, finding out where their trauma might come from and how to find a solution. That could be exercise, healthy eating, sleeping patterns, making them laugh. We try loads of different things. Anything that can reduce the cause of stress or poor mental health."

There's still time to apply for a Pears Youth Fund grant. We'll support organisations to deliver youth work and promote youth voice, youth empowerment and youth activities.

Grants are £10k a year for 2 years, and applications close at 12 noon on Monday 8 June.
