You probably know Chatham Maritime. But do you know what Chatham Maritime Trust actually looks after?

There’s a lot happening behind the scenes.

The Trust’s responsibilities include South of Basin and St. Mary's Island: areas such as parks and play areas, public spaces, bunds, footpaths that haven’t been adopted, signage, street furniture, Dock Basin 2, flood defences and a lot more.

That’s the size of the Chatham Maritime Estate.

Across those 350 acres are homes, businesses, a school, doctors surgery and pharmacy, green spaces, community facilities and the waterfront, all forming the Chatham Maritime you see today.

Chatham Maritime Trust was established to look after the estate for the long term, including many of the public spaces and infrastructure used every day.

The St Margaret’s Green Hop B**r Festival returns to Rainham this Friday and Saturday, with live music, food and plenty of Kentish drinks to enjoy.

A new month brings more events, activities and opportunities to get out and explore the local area.

October already has plenty to look forward to, including the first of this year's Wigmore Lectures and Medway Matters Live, where residents can hear directly from Medway Council and ask questions about the future of Medway.

We will continue to share local events, community news and things to discover around Chatham Maritime throughout the month.

Interested in discovering more about Medway and Kent’s history and culture?

The Wigmore Lectures return this October with six talks taking place at Wigmore Library between October 2026 and February 2027.

This year's programme covers a wide range of subjects, from Kent's past as a kingdom and the story of shipbuilder Mary Ross to British circus history, protests and local engineering.

The first lecture takes place on Wednesday 14 October, with individual talks costing £5 or all six available for £24.

What a fantastic day on the water with Wetwheels Foundation! 🌊

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Wetwheels back to Chatham Maritime for another day of accessible adventures on the River Medway.

It was brilliant to see everyone getting out on the water, enjoying the boat and experiencing Chatham Maritime from a completely different perspective.

Wetwheels gives people of all abilities the opportunity to enjoy exciting experiences on the water, supported by their experienced crew.

Chatham Maritime Trust is proud to support Wetwheels and the work they do to make time on the water accessible to more people.

A huge thank you to the Wetwheels team and everyone who joined us. We hope you had as much fun as we did!
