๐Ÿ”ฌ Research, collaboration and hope for the future ๐Ÿค

On Monday, our CEO David attended the annual Brain Tumour Research Conference in York, joining researchers, clinicians and fellow charities from across the UK brain tumour community.

It was a fascinating day hearing about the latest developments in brain tumour research.

The day was also a brilliant opportunity to catch up with fellow Brain Tumour Research member charities, share what we're all working on and strengthen relationships across the sector.

At YBTC, we're proud to play our part โ€“ supporting people affected by brain tumours today, while investing in research that could help change what tomorrow looks like.

A huge thank you to Brain Tumour Research for bringing everyone together in York. ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’™

Do you know a great place we could host our 2027 Wellbeing Walks? ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ

As we approach the end of 2026, we are beginning to plan our walks for 2027. If there are venues you would recommend, new or returning, weโ€™d love to hear about them!

Our main requirements are - wheelchair accessible, a cafe that can accommodate a group of us and is also accessible, free entry preferred, car park and within Yorkshire.

If you have any suggestions, please message us or email me at [email protected]

Here are a few snaps from our last walk around Cromwell Bottom Nature Reserve. ๐Ÿชถ๐ŸŒณ This was a lovely location and a potential repeat venue for next year!

Thank you, and our walks for the rest of year can be found on our events pages for you to RSVP.

We had our online support group this week and received this lovely feedback. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’™

Our group was on fatigue, including information on what fatigue is and the impact it can have, a talk from a young ambassador on her experience with fatigue and some tips and strategies.

We welcome all feedback, and this was great to hear the impact the group had had in a variety of ways for her and her family.

Our next online group, and the last of the year, will be Tuesday 24th November at 6pm and will be on Radiotherapy, providing information on how it works, what to expect, potential side effects and much more. Full details to follow next week. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you to all who attended, our wonderful guest speakers and The Brain Tumour Charity for their ongoing support with these.

We might be small, but we are certainly mighty ๐Ÿ’™

Weโ€™re incredibly proud to share our 2025โ€“2026 Impact Report, showcasing what our small charity has achieved for people affected by brain tumours across Yorkshire.
From expanding local support and investing in research to reaching more people than ever before, itโ€™s been an incredible year.

A huge thank you to our staff, volunteers, supporters, trustees, partners and everyone in our community who has made this possible. We couldnโ€™t do it without you.

Itโ€™s World Cancer Research Day, and weโ€™re proudly spotlighting the incredible science being carried out right here in Yorkshire.

Brain tumours take more young lives than any other cancer โ€” but receive less than 2% of national research funding.

This is why local research matters so deeply.

One project weโ€™re especially proud to support is the work of YBTC-funded PhD student Kelsey Wosnitzka at the University of Sheffield.

Kelsey studies why different parts of the same tumour behave differently โ€” a key reason current treatments often fall short.

By understanding tumour complexity, her work moves us closer to:

๐Ÿ”ฌ Earlier diagnosis

๐Ÿ’› Kinder, personalised treatments

๐ŸŒŸ Better outcomes for patients in Yorkshire and beyond

This research exists because of you.

๐Ÿ’™ Hull Brain Tumour Support Group โ€“ Tomorrow at 2pm

Thinking about coming along but not sure what to expect? Here are a few answers to common questions ๐Ÿ‘‡

โ“ Who is the group for?

Anyone impacted by any type of brain tumour diagnosis. That includes patients, family members and friends.

People come with a wide range of experiences. If youโ€™re hoping to connect with someone who has been through something similar and donโ€™t find that person at the group, we can also connect you with one of our 1-to-1 peer supporters.

โ“ What do people talk about?

All sorts! Sometimes people talk about their diagnosis and treatment, and sometimes itโ€™s simply about everyday life.

Thereโ€™s no pressure to share anything you donโ€™t want to. Sometimes it just helps to be in the company of people who truly understand. ๐Ÿ’™

โ“ When and where?

๐Ÿ“… Tomorrow โ€“ Tuesday 15 September
โฐ 2:00pmโ€“3:30pm
๐Ÿ“ Butterflies, Studio 700, 15 Princess Street, Hull, HU2 8BJ
๐Ÿš— Free parking on site

The group is facilitated by David Grant-Roberts from Yorkshireโ€™s Brain Tumour Charity.

Our Hull group usually meets on the third Tuesday of each month.

New faces are always welcome. ๐Ÿ’™
