3 things we’ve learned this week:

1️⃣ Scotland’s NHS and care services depend on migrant workers. They deserve security, dignity and a future.

2️⃣ More than 9 in 10 council workers are struggling with the cost of living. COSLA must keep the promise and deliver £15 an hour.

3️⃣ Lawrence Shankland should start for Scotland. Obviously.

C'mon Scotland. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚽️🏆

UNISON Forth Valley Health Branch rejects racism, intimidation and attempts to divide our communities.

Our NHS and care services are built by workers from every background. International workers are our colleagues, our members, our friends and our neighbours. Their contribution should be valued, respected and defended.

On Wednesday, UNISON members from across Scotland gathered at Holyrood for a rally in support of the Fair Visa campaign. We called for a visa system that gives migrant workers security, dignity and a future.

That is what our union does.

We stand with workers. We stand with communities. We campaign for fairness, dignity and respect. And we will not stop doing that when others try to stir up division.

When people try to turn communities against each other, we choose solidarity.

Congratulations to Chair of our Branch Charlie McCarthy who was elected to the UNISON Service Group Executive after a fantastic campaign. Thanks to our members in Forth Valley and beyond who recognise Charlie as an outstanding candidate to represent them at the highest level. Branch Secretary Karren Morrison was also elected unopposed meaning our branch officials will be able to shape and influence UNISON Health policy on your behalf.

Today, General Secretary Andrea Egan visited the Falkirk Branch office, meeting with branch officers from Falkirk, Forth Valley and Stirling.

Discussions focused on the support needed for branches and officers dealing with far-right activity and intimidation in recent weeks. Branch offices and union officers in Falkirk and across Forth Valley have been targeted for standing up for workers, communities and anti-racism values.

The visit was an important show of solidarity with local activists and staff, and a reminder that intimidation will not stop UNISON members from organising and speaking up for their communities. Discussions were also held with Stirling Local Government branch officers regarding forthcoming industrial action ballots.

Solidarity with all our branches, officers and members facing this abuse. ✊
