(An important note)
NEAR MISS ON THE MOSS ROAD – PLEASE SLOW DOWN FOR HORSES ⚠️
Today could have ended in absolute tragedy. My daughter and her pony were on the Moss Road for less than 100 yards to access the track. In that tiny stretch:
🚗 3 cars sped past without slowing down.
🚗 1 car came up so fast that when her pony spooked, the driver was forced to slam on their brakes, screeching to a stop and nearly running off the road.
Another driver actually pulled up to check on us afterwards and said they were "embarrassed to call themselves a driver" after seeing how those cars behaved.
If a vehicle has to brake that violently to avoid a collision, it is being driven far too fast for a road where horses, cyclists, and pedestrians walk.
Under the Highway Code, drivers are advised to:
• Pass horses at no more than 10 mph
• Leave at least 2 metres (6.5 feet) of space
A pony spooking into the road isn't a child misbehaving—it is an instinctual reaction to a fast-moving object.
Drivers, please Pass Wide and Slow.
We aren’t trying to delay you; we are just trying to keep our children and animals safe.
(This incident is being officially logged tonight with both the police and the British Horse Society).
To the drivers who do slow down and wait—including the driver who pulled over to support us today—thank you.
To everyone else, please remember that a few seconds saved on your journey is never worth a life. 🐴❤️
