We are delighted to welcome Derek Craig to the staff team at BB Headquarters, who has joined as our new Development Worker for the Location CashBack project.

Working together with Youth Scotland, Guides and Scouts, Location CashBack is a three-year Leadership and Participation programme funded by Scottish Government CashBack for Communities Funding. It will support young people aged 10-25 years in SIMD 1-2 areas who may also face barriers including being impacted by poverty, crime and anti-social behaviour.

Building on connections to trusted local youth groups, like the BB, it will offer safe spaces, mentoring, personal development and leadership opportunities that open new pathways for learning, life and work.

Derek is based at our Carronvale House office, and will be responsible for leading support of BB groups in Scotland through the project as well as the delivery of funded targets.

Derek said: "I'm delighted to be starting work at The Boys' Brigade concentrating on the Location CashBack project which will help young people in Scotland to access personal development and leadership opportunities. I look forward to meeting staff and volunteer leaders in the coming weeks and months."

Every participant in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award completes a volunteering section, helping them to make a meaningful contribution in their community, influence change and shape the world they want to live in 🙌

We want to say a huge thank you to DofE participants from The Boys' Brigade who spent nearly 8,000 hours volunteering between 1st April 2025 and 31st March 2026, in doing so making a difference to BB groups, Churches, charities or causes they are passionate about! 👏

02/06/2026

A large number of our volunteer leaders are individuals who went through the organisation as young people and, knowing first-hand what it did for them, want to help provide opportunities to today's generation 🙌

This Volunteers' Week and always, we want to say a massive thank you to all of our leaders for everything they do in helping children and young people to learn, grow and discover in around 700 communities across the country! 👏
