Last week’s Wild Time Play session involved battles, tactical planning and some very serious stick-based warfare ⚔️
And, as always, it was more than just 'play' - there was so much learning happening underneath it all.
Through imaginative play like this, children explore ideas about power, fairness, teamwork, rules, risk and relationships. They test boundaries, negotiate roles, solve problems, cooperate, disagree, adapt and make sense of the world around them.
One minute they were fierce warriors defending camp… the next they were negotiating alliances, checking everyone was included and helping each other over obstacles.
The value and importance of this kind of play is huge. It allows children to process ideas about the world that surrounds them, and to explore emotions and develop social skills in ways that feel natural and meaningful to them.
And most importantly, there was fun - the kind that comes from being fully immersed in play, imagination and adventure in the outdoors.
