It's our final day of Carers Week activities! We hosted a Time for Me Day at Lanarkshire Carers Centre in Hamilton this morning, creating a warm and welcoming space for carers to step away from their daily responsibilities and focus on their own wellbeing. The event offered a variety of ways to relax, recharge and try something new. Carers explored different break options, while enjoying the chance to connect with others over a cuppa in a friendly, supportive environment.

Minority Ethnic Carers from across Lanarkshire had a wonderful time today at a coffee morning to celebrate Carers Week 2026 at Chaterault Country Park. They enjoyed each other’s company, relaxing fun-filled activities, music and the scenic views. It was a fantastic opportunity to have a break from caring, discuss their caring roles and share experiences, support each other and be looked after.

As part of Carers Week, we took carers along to the Future Carer Conference at the University of Strathclyde, exploring how communities can better support carers through research, practice and lived experience. This event brings together carers, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and innovators to share perspectives, explore new ideas, and connect lived experience, academic research, and practice.

We kicked off Day 4 of Carers Week with an “Introduction to Smartphone Photography” session in Hamilton, fully prepared to roam the streets capturing award-winning shots. Unfortunately the weather had other ideas, so there was no dramatic outdoor photo shoot this time!
Instead, we improvised and turned Carer Support Worker Jade into our very own in-house model. Let’s just say she handled the paparazzi attention like a pro!

Some photos from the Introduction to Walking Football yesterday at Airdrie Football Club. Walking football is a modified, low-impact version of association football designed for all ages and abilities, notably those over 50 or recovering from injury, where running is strictly prohibited. Played at a walking pace to minimise injury risk, it focuses on skill, passing, and cardiovascular health while promoting social connection.

We brought Day 3 of Carers Week to a gentle and restful close with our online Sound Healing & Relaxation Session.

This session offered carers a calm and restorative space to pause, breathe, and reset. We began with simple guided breathwork to help settle the body and mind, followed by a short meditation. Crystal singing bowls and soft chimes then created a soothing soundscape, allowing participants to fully relax and unwind in the comfort of their own homes.

Sound healing is often deeply calming, with the tones and vibrations helping to ease stress and anxiety, support better sleep, and restore a sense of balance and clarity.

A peaceful and meaningful way to end a day focused on connection, wellbeing, and support.

We were delighted to partner with Motherwell Library to host a special film screening in their unique immersive room—an exciting space where digital projection brings stories to life across every wall, creating a truly engaging 360° experience.

Carers enjoyed a showing of What’s Love Got to Do With It?, a heartfelt and thought-provoking British romantic film that explores love and culture.

Set against a visually dynamic backdrop, the immersive environment added something extra to the experience, offering a chance to unwind, reflect, and enjoy a shared moment of escapism during Carers Week

Thank you to Motherwell Library for hosting us in such an innovative space.

Day 3 of Carers Week began with a calming and restorative Mindful Nature Walk and Historical Tour at the beautiful Chatelherault Country Park.

Carers joined us in stunning surroundings to take in the rich history of the West Lodge, exploring the elegant Banqueting Room and Duchess’s Room, and learning more about the heritage of this special place.

The morning continued with a gentle walk through the peaceful Border Gardens, offering time to relax, connect with nature, and enjoy the company of others. We then came together for a well-deserved lunch, sharing conversation, laughter, and a chance to recharge.

Thank you to everyone who joined us—these moments of connection, reflection, and support are what Carers Week is all about.

Unpaid carers are at the heart of our communities.

We’re delighted to share this important recognition from South Lanarkshire Council for unpaid carers in South Lanarkshire.

If you are an unpaid carer living in Lanarkshire and would like information, advice or support, Lanarkshire Carers is here for you.

The Carers Week flag has been raised at council headquarters and Hamilton Town House is being lit up in blue to recognise unpaid carers across South Lanarkshire. Carers Week runs from today and focuses this year on the way supportive communities can improve the lives of carers.
