Men's Mental Health Week in 2026 takes place from today, Monday June 15 to Sunday, June 21, running concurrently with the UK's annual Men's Health Week. This is always a hard post for us, however by doing so we try to ensure that global awareness week helps to end the stigma around all mental illness, and encourages men (and women) to seek help.
We wanted to highlight several vital facts about male mental health:
•The Gender Gap: Around four in five su***des are by men, and su***de is the leading cause of death for men under 35 in the UK.
•Internal Stigma: Despite an estimated 1 in 8 men experiencing a common mental health problem like anxiety or depression, approximately 40% won't talk about their mental health with friends or family.
•Workplace Support: Up to 43% of working British men are actively calling for their employers to provide greater mental health support.
•Men account for around 70–75% of all su***de deaths in Scotland.
•Male su***de rates are consistently 2.6–3.6 times higher than female rates in Scotland.
•Scotland continues to have the highest su***de rate in the UK especially in men.
What these figures show about men’s mental health:
• Men are less likely to seek help, reflected in lower healthcare contact before death.
• Social factors — relationship breakdown, unemployment, isolation — are strongly represented in the data.
• Deprivation remains one of the strongest predictors of su***de risk.
• Working‑age men (25–64) are the most at‑risk group.
As a men’s shed that supports both men and women, if you or someone you know is struggling, you’re not alone — and talking to a trusted person or a professional can make a real difference.
Talking is how healing begins — one honest moment at a time. Just know you are enough, you are not alone, and even when your mind tells you otherwise there is always someone willing to listen to you.
