WHAT A BRILLIANT DAY! 💚

Our Stronger Together Through Football Activity Day, held in partnership with Hitchin Town Football Club, was a huge success!

Despite the weather doing its best to challenge us, nothing was going to stop the fun! The children threw themselves into the day – playing football, learning new skills, laughing together and, most importantly, making new connections with other children who understand something of what it is like to experience a bereavement.

It was fantastic to see confidence grow throughout the day, friendships begin to form and plenty of smiles around the pitch. 💚

Our Activity Days are about so much more than the activity itself. They give bereaved children the chance to come together in a relaxed and supportive environment, have fun and simply enjoy being children – while recognising that they are not alone in their experience of grief.

A HUGE thank you to Hitchin Town Football Club for helping us make the day possible, and to everyone who supported the children and helped make it such a success.

And, of course, the biggest well done goes to the children who joined us – you were absolute superstars!

10 years of making a difference, and we’re so excited to be part of the next chapter! 💜

This year, the Co-op Local Community Fund is celebrating its 10th anniversary, a whole decade of Co-op members choosing local causes and helping make a difference in communities across the country.

And we’re delighted that Stand-by-me Bereavement Support has been chosen as one of the Co-op’s Local Community Fund causes for 2026–2027!

Over the coming year, support from Co-op members will help towards our Stronger Together Activity Days for bereaved children and young people.

These special days use activities such as football, music, golf, tennis and creative experiences to bring young people together, build confidence, create connections and, importantly, help them realise they are not alone in their grief.

We’re incredibly excited to be working alongside the Co-op during such a special anniversary year, but we need you, their members, to get involved too!

A fun day of football activities with Hitchin Town Football Club, the chance to learn and practise skills, and plenty of opportunities to have fun alongside other children who have also experienced a bereavement.

And they don’t need to be experienced footballers to take part!

The day is for bereaved children aged 7–11 and is all about joining in, building confidence, making connections and having fun.

🎾 A fantastic day at Welwyn Tennis Club! 💜

We were delighted to join our friends at Welwyn Tennis Club on Sunday 11th October for their brilliant Mini Mac Event – and what a lovely day it was!

A particularly special moment for us was seeing our amazing Young Ambassador, Devon, speak to members about his own experience of bereavement, his journey with Stand-by-me and the difference having the right support has made to him. 💜

Our Young Ambassadors play such an important part in what we do. By bravely sharing their experiences, they help others understand why specialist bereavement support for children and young people matters, and show that no young person should have to navigate their grief alone.

We’re incredibly grateful to Welwyn Tennis Club for choosing Stand-by-me as their Charity of the Year. Partnerships like this are about so much more than fundraising. They help raise awareness of our work, introduce our support to more families and give young people like Devon a platform to make their voices heard.

A huge thank you to everyone at Welwyn Tennis Club for making us feel so welcome, for listening to Devon’s story and for standing alongside us as we continue to support bereaved children, young people and their families across North Hertfordshire and Stevenage. 🎾💜

For a child who has experienced a bereavement, meeting other children who understand can make a real difference.

Our Stronger Together Through Football Activity Day in collaboration with Hitchin Town Football Club, gives bereaved children aged 7–11 the chance to come together for football, fun and connection.

There’s no expectation to talk about their bereavement. It’s about enjoying the day, learning new skills, having fun and making connections with other children who have experienced something similar.

Sometimes, simply knowing you’re not the only one can mean so much. 💜

💜 An inspirational and thought-provoking morning

A huge thank you to Hitchin Tilehouse Rotary for welcoming Stand-by-me to their meeting last Friday

We were especially proud of our Young Ambassador James, who spoke so articulately and bravely about his own experience of bereavement and the difference Stand-by-me’s support has made to him.

The response from everyone was incredibly warm, with the Rotary President describing the talk as “inspirational and thought-provoking.”

Thank you, James, for helping us raise awareness of childhood bereavement and why the right support matters. 💜
