Stand-by-me Bereavement Support 1 in 29, 5 to 16 year olds has been bereaved of a parent or sibling,
that’s one child in every class.

We offer a groupwork programme for children, young people and their families providing practical skills to help them manage their grief.

A huge THANK YOU to the Fairview Road Residents Association for choosing Stand-by-me as their Charity of the Year and raising over £2,000 for our charity! 💜

We're delighted to announce that Stand-by-me has been selected to take part in The Big Give Small Charity Week Campaign from 22nd–29th June!

Small Charity Week celebrates the incredible impact small charities have in their communities. Through The Big Give's matched funding campaign, every donation made through our campaign page during the week will be doubled, helping your support go twice as far. Thanks to match funding, we have the opportunity to receive up to £3,000 in matched donations, meaning together we could raise an incredible £6,000 to support bereaved children, young people and their families. 🌟

✔️ Donate through our campaign page when it launches on 22nd June (we'll share the link soon!)
✔️ Hold your own fundraising event during the week and donate the proceeds through our campaign page.

What a lovely evening celebrating our amazing London Landmarks Half Marathon and London Marathon runners at Knebworth Golf Club! 🏅✨

It was wonderful to bring everyone together after months of training, fundraising and race-day excitement to share stories, celebrate achievements and enjoy time with friends and family.

A huge congratulations and thank you to all of our runners, Kaleigh, Sam, Abbie, Cole, Johnathan, Vicky, Hayley, James and Sian for their incredible commitment and determination. Together, they raised an amazing £14,782 to help us continue supporting bereaved children and young people across our local community. 💙

Say Hello!

We are delighted to welcome two new members to the Stand-by-me team 💜

A very warm welcome to Alison, our new Director, and Rachel, our new Bereavement Support Manager. Both bring a wealth of experience, passion, and dedication to supporting bereaved children, young people, and families.

We are so excited for the future and can’t wait for our community, families, schools, and supporters to get to know them both over the coming months.

At the end of April, we said a very special goodbye (and good luck!) to two amazing members of the Stand-by-me family 💙

After 10 incredible years with the charity, first as a volunteer and more recently as our Bereavement Support Manager, Lisa has headed off on a brand-new adventure, continuing her work supporting vulnerable children and families. Her compassion, dedication, and unwavering support for bereaved children and young people have made such a difference to so many lives over the years.

We also waved goodbye to Mia, who has been part of the charity for the past 10 years and is now setting off on an exciting new adventure starting in Australia. We’re not jealous at all… ☀️✈️

To celebrate everything Lisa and Mia have brought to Stand-by-me over the years, we held a goodbye and good luck celebration filled with laughter, memories, fizz, and plenty of well wishes from colleagues, volunteers, friends, and supporters.

They will both be hugely missed by everyone here and by so many families and community members who have known and worked with them over the years. Please join us in wishing them both the very best for their next chapters 💙

Last night’s volunteer catch up was such a lovely evening. It was fantastic to have so many of our amazing volunteers together in one room, sharing ideas, checking in with one another and having some really productive discussions about our future plans for Stand-by-me.

It was also a perfect time to show them round the refurbished Hitchin Youth Trust Charity Hub, where we are lucky enough to be based.

We are so grateful for the continued support, dedication and compassion each of our volunteers brings. Without them, Stand-by-me simply would not be able to provide the support we currently offer to bereaved children, young people and their families.
