The Triangle Garden is a community garden within a local park where people of all ages and abilities can come together and take part in creative land-based activities, such as growing food and flowers, tending plants, creating wildlife habitats, making permanent garden features and learning about biodiversity. We run community gardening and forest school activities open to all, once a month on wee

kends, and community events, workshops, walks and talks throughout the year. Book via www.trianglegarden.org/events Our Friday Garden Club actively nurtures the Triangle Garden and we welcome new volunteers. Our green care projects Growing Ability and New Shoots provide social therapeutic horticulture activities, and healthy living support for our 'gardeners' with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs during the week. This includes food growing, horticulture training, arts and crafts, nature conservation, work experience and peer support, leading to increased wellbeing, confidence and independence. Please email us about a referral via [email protected]

We welcome help from volunteers at any of our activities. Please contact us if you're interested. https://linktr.ee/trianglegardenhitchin

Sign up for Growing Ability!

We have just had two spaces become available to join Growing Ability, our social therapeutic horticulture project for adults with cognitive differences at our beautiful community garden in Hitchin.

Our Growing Ability 'gardeners' enjoy training in horticulture and nature conservation, developing skills for healthy living in a sociable and safe environment with our experienced team. Attending Growing Ability helps them grow in confidence and make lasting friendships, whilst enjoying time outside in nature.

Due to popular demand, we are also exploring adding an additional session on a Friday, so please do get in touch to express interest.

If you care about
• food prices
• energy costs
• the cost of living
• local flooding
• nature loss
then you might want to catch this free Hitchin film screening.

This summer we’re collaborating with Hitchin Boys School to bring you The People’s Emergency Briefing - an eye-opening 50 minute film that resets the national conversation.

The film sets out the risks facing the nation - and the credible, positive responses available - in a clear and accessible account, currently being shown in communities across the UK.

It follows a Gogglebox style format: We watch, along with a wide variety of ordinary Brits onscreen - and some well-known faces - as they view excerpts from expert briefings, originally given in Westminster last November to an audience of more than a thousand MPs and influential people.

As we watch the film, we hear people’s reactions, in conversation with Chris Packham, who fronts the film. Then, after the film ends, the local audience continues the conversation by engaging in a 45-minute facilitated discussion of their reactions and thoughts on how the film made them feel and what could/should be done.

Our MP Alistair Strathern has been invited and we very much hope he will attend.

The film offers solutions, but also joins the dots between a variety of societal impacts if climate change and nature loss are allowed to continue unabated. The picture that emerges is both a stark warning and an urgent positive call to arms to us all, to take action to protect the lives we love and the world we depend on. Book your free ticket, bring your friends and family (16+ only please) and spread the word...

Feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed or just numb? New Shoots can help you reset your mental health.

We’ll spend time in nature, doing meaningful activities in a small group, gently building up our physical activity, growing our wellbeing and focusing on experiencing more mindfulness in the natural world.

New Shoots is a six-week course with the aim of reducing social isolation and improving mental wellbeing.

Many of those helped by this project have lived experience of common mental health issues such as anxiety or depression. New Shoots has empowered them to take control of their mental wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment. The community garden offers a perfect setting for practicing the five ways to wellbeing. Our tutors encourage participants to connect, be active, take notice, learn and give. This lays the foundations for self-care and maintained wellbeing in their daily lives.

This year we’re running ‘New Shoots for Carers‘ aimed at benefiting those in a caring role, but if you aren’t a carer and feel attending New Shoots would benefit you, please do apply.

The sessions are in a therapeutic natural setting, proven to reduce stress levels
They focus on the five ways to wellbeing – self-help practices that can improve mental health over time.

The sessions are outdoors, providing respite from what for many depressed people is a predominantly indoor existence – fresh air and a change of surroundings

They bring people together to share experiences, burdens and breakthroughs, reducing social isolation.

They revolve around gardening, food growing and nature observation, encouraging feelings of usefulness, mindfulness, and self-worth.

They include varied levels of physical activity depending on the individual’s abilities, with associated physical and mental health benefits.

Together, such activities can lead to increased levels of wellbeing and resilience.

Join us to discover the ancient Japanese floral art of Ikebana!

In this immersive workshop with Letchworth-based The Twisted Florist, you’ll dive into the meditative world of Ikebana, the ancient Japanese art of floral design.

Unlike standard arrangements, Ikebana focuses on the harmony of line, rhythm, and empty space. You won’t just leave with a temporary creation; you’ll take home your own Ikebana bowl and flower frog (kenzan), ensuring you have the essential tools to keep practicing.

Most importantly, you will walk away with the foundational skills to craft unique arrangements for a lifetime.
