ABOUT US
Established in 2017, Help Street Cats and Dogs is an all-volunteer animal rescue charity based in the United Kingdom. Our mission is to improve the lives of street cats and dogs in Turkey. We promote the importance of spaying and neutering within communities. By actively engaging in spayin

g and neutering efforts to prevent the birth of countless unwanted puppies and kittens of tomorrow. Through our dedicated on-the-ground volunteers, we protect and care for neglected, abused and vulnerable street animals. We provide them with essential food supplies, life-saving veterinary care, and outdoor shelters offering protection from the elements. We endeavour to find loving homes for as many animals as possible in the UK, USA, Canada, and Europe giving these deserving animals a second chance at life. OUR MISSION
🧡 Promote the care and protection of all animals, striving to prevent cruelty and alleviate suffering.

🧡 Advocate for the benefits of spaying and neutering to effectively reduce the population of street cats and dogs within communities.

🧡 Relieve the suffering of street cats and dogs by providing much-needed care, treatment, and housing for street cats and dogs in desperate need.

🧡 To find loving homes for these rescued animals, offering them a second chance at a happy and fulfilling life. HOW WE ACHIEVE OUR MISSION
🧡 Grants - We enable on-the-ground volunteers to provide food, water, outdoor shelters, and medical treatment to animals in their communities.

🧡 Spay/Neuter - Actively involved in promoting and organising spaying and neutering programs to help reduce the population of street animals.

🧡 Protection - We rescue cats and dogs from neglect, abuse, cruelty, and abandonment, giving them a second chance at life by finding them loving homes.

RESCUE VEHICLE UPDATE

Our rescue vehicle, which has been off the road for nearly six months.

Our van has been an absolute lifeline for our work, allowing us to transport sick and injured animals to vets, deliver food and reach dogs living in remote mountain and roadside areas.

Due to its age, it has been breaking down repeatedly. Repairs have become increasingly expensive, replacement parts are difficult to find, and we have reached the point where continuing to spend money trying to keep it running is simply no longer economically viable.

We have therefore decided to sell the vehicle as it is and put whatever we can raise from the sale towards a replacement.

In the meantime, being without our van has had a real impact on our work, particularly our feeding rounds in remote areas. We are currently borrowing cars whenever possible and doing our best to continue responding to animals that need veterinary care.

A suitable replacement vehicle is likely to cost us around £5,000, which is a huge amount for a small charity like ours. We will therefore need to launch a fundraiser to help get Help Street Cats and Dogs back on the road 🚐🐾

If anyone would like to make a significant contribution towards a new rescue vehicle, help us fundraise, or knows of an organisation that may be willing to support us with a vehicle or grant, please get in touch.

It enables us to reach animals who otherwise have nobody coming for them.

MEET OUR NEW ARRIVALS – Olive & Maple 😻😻

Meet Olive and Maple, two little kittens we recently took into our care after getting them out of a shelter.

Olive, our little black girl, is already blind in both eyes, while Maple, our beautiful tortoiseshell, is potentially blind in one eye. They are now safely in our care and will receive all the veterinary checks, testing and treatment they need. Once they are healthy and ready, we will start looking for loving forever homes for them 🏡

For now, we need your help to cover their ongoing care, including food, vaccinations, veterinary bills and preparations for future travel.

If you would like to contribute towards Olive and Maple’s care, please consider donating via the PayPal link in our bio. Every donation, however small, helps us give kittens like these the second chance they deserve 🙏🧡

Sometimes love means letting go 🧡

We received a call about a dog lying on the street who couldn’t move.

We took her to the vet, where initial examinations and X-rays of her back and hips didn’t show anything obvious. However, it was clear she was in immense pain and unable to properly use one of her back legs.

She was started on pain relief and medication and then returned to our volunteer’s care, but sadly her condition didn’t improve. We discussed further investigations, including an MRI scan, but these facilities simply aren’t available in the area where we work.

Despite all our efforts, she remained in constant pain and distress. She was crying continuously, even with strong pain relief, and her quality of life was rapidly deteriorating.

We don’t know her story. She may have once belonged to someone and been abandoned when she became a burden, or perhaps she’d been involved in an accident. Sadly, we’ll never know.

The kindest thing we could do in the end was to let her go peacefully and end her suffering.

Rescue isn’t always happy endings. Sometimes it’s about being there when nobody else is and making sure an animal doesn’t suffer alone.

Run free, sweet girl. We are sorry we couldn’t save you 🧡

FUNDRAISER APPEAL – SHELTERS FOR TWO DOGS

We are looking to raise £500 to build outdoor kennels for two dogs.

We have recently taken in two dogs that desperately need our help. One is an elderly boy, and the other has ongoing leg issues that we are still trying to diagnose and treat.

We’ve moved them to a safer area, but we currently don’t have the right facilities to care for them properly. There are no local foster homes or people able to take them in, so our volunteer on the ground will be looking after them.

To give them a safe and comfortable place to live, we need to build outdoor kennels to protect them from the elements. We need to buy roofing materials, metal, wood, and other supplies to build secure shelters where they can rest, recover, and live out their lives with dignity.

The materials for one kennel cost around £250.

Please consider donating towards the materials to help us build them a safe place to call home. Every contribution, no matter how small, will help us make this happen 🧡💜

ADOPTION UPDATE - RIVER 😻

We are delighted to share that our beautiful blind girl River has found her forever home. 🏡✨

River was rescued in Türkiye as a tiny kitten after losing both of her eyes. She remained in our care while she grew stronger and prepared for her journey to the USA.

After taking her freedom flight to San Francisco, River has now found the loving family she deserves. Seeing her safe, happy, and thriving in her new home makes all the hard work worthwhile.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part in River’s journey — our dedicated volunteers on the ground, those who donated towards her care and freedom flight, and our wonderful flight volunteers who helped get her safely to her new life.

A special thank you for fostering and in San Francisco for welcoming River and helping her find the perfect forever home.

Happy life, sweet River. You have overcome so much, and we couldn’t be happier for you 🧡💜

ADOPTION UPDATE – TILLY 😻

Our beautiful blind girl Tilly has officially found her forever home in San Francisco. 🏡✨

Tilly was rescued in Türkiye as a tiny kitten after already losing both of her eyes. Despite such a difficult start in life, with love, care, and support from so many people, she grew into the sweetest little girl and recently took her freedom flight to the USA.

What makes this even more special is that Tilly has been adopted alongside a rabbit friend she met in her foster home 🐰🧡

We are beyond happy for this outcome and so grateful to everyone who was part of Tilly’s journey — from our volunteers on the ground, to those who donated towards her care and flight, to our amazing flight volunteer.

A huge thank you as always to our wonderful rescue partners in San Francisco, for helping make stories like this possible.

Happy life, sweet Tilly. You were always worth saving 🧡💜

AN OLD BOY WHO DESERVES BETTER

We found this old boy on the side of the road — skin and bones, struggling to breathe, and clearly very unwell. His cropped ears suggest he once belonged to someone, likely used as a livestock guardian. When he was no longer “useful”, he was simply dumped and left to fend for himself 😢

He’s not neutered, exhausted, and has clearly been trying to survive for far too long without food.

Thankfully, our volunteer came across him in time. He’s now in our care, receiving food and medication. We’re hoping he will start to regain his strength in the coming days.

It’s heartbreaking to see how easily animals are discarded when they are no longer needed. They are left to starve, suffer, and die alone.

We would really apprciate some support for his ongoing care such as food and medicaiotn. Donations can be made via the PayPal link in bio.

We will do everything we can to give him the care he deserves now 🧡

FREEDOM FLIGHT UPDATE – Finley, River & Tilly

We’re so happy to share that Finley, River and Tilly safely arrived in San Francisco.

Tilly and River are now settling into their foster home
until they find their forever families.
Finley’s adopter drove all the way from Seattle to collect him from the airport. He’s now safely in Seattle, settling into his new home and has already met his Turkish Kangal dogs and Chester, also one of our former rescues..

Transporting cats internationally truly takes an international village to make it happen. A huge thank you goes to:

🔸 Our incredible volunteer on the ground, who rescues, fosters, rehabilitates, and prepares these cats for travel. Without her, these cats would never have had a second chance.
🔸 Our amazing flight volunteer, Caitlin, for escorting them safely to the USA.
🔸 Give Me a Shelter in San Francisco for welcoming Tilly and River and helping find their forever homes.
🔸 And finally, everyone who donated towards their freedom flight— we are so grateful. You made this journey possible.

We’ll keep you updated when Tilly and River find their forever homes.
