Another 100 copies of Trauma Informed Parenting in Action arrived today, and it still feels a little surreal seeing them all lined up on the shelves.

One special box has already been set aside for the Getting to Grips with Trauma Book Festival on 6th September, where I’ll be joining so many incredible authors. I honestly can’t wait.

We’ll also be donating a few signed copies of the book for the raffle on the day, so there will be a few extra chances to take one home.

If you’ve been thinking about coming along, I’d love to see you there. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic day filled with inspiring speakers, books, and conversations about trauma, healing, and hope.

🎟️ Day passes are just £15. You can book yours here: https://lanternhousearts.org/events/book-festival-getting-to-grips-with-traum/

Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey so far. Every book, every share, every kind message, and every conversation helps spread the trauma-informed approach a little further. ❤️

I thought you might like to know about the online Watch Party for a brand new documentary film on trauma that is taking place this very week!

On Wednesday evening, 29 July, the film Traumality will receive its first global viewing. Scotland’s efforts relating to ACEs and trauma get a very good reception in the film, from both a grassroots and a governmental perspective.

For now, you can stay up to date on final details of the Watch Party, including joining the Waitlist, via this link: https://www.traumality.com/

I’m so excited to be taking part in this…

But if I’m honest, I’m also terrified.

Seeing my name alongside so many accomplished authors doesn’t quite feel real. My inner imposter has been working overtime, telling me I’m not good enough.

So it would mean the world to see some familiar faces there on the day. Your support has always carried me, and I’d love for us to show everyone just how strong this trauma-informed parenting movement has become.

If you’ve been wondering what the event involves, this post will hopefully answer many of your questions and put any worries at ease.

I’d love to see you there. ❤️

All of the answers to the many questions being asked.

❤️ Book Festival - Getting to Grips with Trauma❤️
from Scotland's ACEs Action Community
6 September 2026, Sunday - in Cumbernauld
featuring 24 Scottish authors

Amidst the wonderful excitement about our first ever Book Festival, I've had a number of questions about how the day will work. I love that these questions arise because many of the folk coming haven't ever been to a Book Festival before. So they would like more information about what to expect.

Here goes:
- The Programme below shows how the day is laid out.
- There are SIX sessions you can attend, over the day.
- For each session, you choose between FOUR authors you can hear from. Yes, we know it might be hard to choose.🙂 That gives you a chance to practice embracing the emotion of Disappointment. 🙂
- The 4 rooms in which sessions are taking place are different sizes. They will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. If the room for your chosen author is full when you get there, please choose a different room/author.
- Yes, you can arrive late to a session. You will still be shown in if there are available seats. Please just come in on your quiet tip-toes. 🙂
- Each session consists of the author in conversation with a Chair, who is knowledgeable about the author's work and will facilitate an in-depth exploration of their work & motivations, focusing in particular on how their book helps us to think about or recognise trauma.
- Each session lasts 50 minutes. 35 mins involve conversation between the Chair & author. For the last 15 mins, there is a Q&A with the audience. No, you are not obligated to say anything. You can sit in silence the whole session & never say a thing if you feel nervous about speaking up.
- There are 10 minutes between sessions for people to make their way to another room, if they wish. Or you can stay put in the same room for the next session.
- After a session, you can purchase the author's book if you want and can get them to sign it. Yes, you can even take a selfie!🙂
- At the end of the day, everyone who wishes to can attend the bespoke musical-theatrical performance being written by Siobhan Argyle of Anam Alba. It weaves together insights & favourite lines from the 24 books.

Here's more:
- The cost to attend is £15. This gives you a Day Pass to attend all 6 sessions + theatrical performance. No, you do not have to attend every session. If your mind is blown by what you just heard, you can go sit outside & marvel at the clouds or have a cup of tea in the cafe.
- Yes, £15 is extraordinary value.
- The full day lasts 10am til 5.30pm. No, you don't have to be there at 10am. You can come any time you like. Yes, the cost is still £15.
- We could not have offered this event without the amazing support of our venue, the Lanternhouse Theatre. We are deeply appreciative of their community ethos.
- You book your Day Pass ticket here: https://lanternhousearts.org/events/book-festival-getting-to-grips-with-traum/
- Yes, we expect to sell out. So BOOK NOW.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME. Please spread the word. ❤️

Creating a Trauma-informed Classroom
Written by Sarah Lathan, published 2024
Reviewed by Sharon Gray, July 2026

Wow. What a book. What a gift to every teacher who has ever looked at a child and thought, "There is more to you than this moment."

Across my three-plus decades in education — leading schools serving some of our most vulnerable children, from Beormund and Netherfield to specialist SEMH and autism provision, and in my work championing children within the youth justice system — one truth has held firm at every turn: behind every behaviour is a child with a story. Every child, without exception, deserves to be seen, valued and believed in. Sarah Lathan gets this truth, right to her core. And she has poured it into the pages of her book, Creating a Trauma-informed Classroom.

This is a book that sparkles with hope and crackles with energy, yet never loses its feet on the ground. Sarah weaves the science — the neuroscience of learning, the biology of stress, the lasting imprint of adverse childhood experiences — together with warm, practical, do-it-on-Monday-morning strategies. She reminds us that a trauma-informed classroom isn't a technique to bolt on, but that it is a way of being: relationships first, curiosity over judgement, connection before correction.

I have seen, again and again, what happens when the adults change. Children who were written off begin to fly. Communities who had lost hope rediscover it. Sarah's book lights that same flame. Read it and you'll walk back through your classroom door with fresh eyes, a fuller heart and an unshakeable belief that no child is ever beyond reach.

Bigger, better, bolder — this is the thinking our children deserve. I couldn't recommend Sarah Lathan's book more warmly.

💙 Supporting Families & Friends Affected by a Loved One’s Addiction

We’d love to share a wonderful resource in West Lothian that is being offered by one of the parents in our community.

A big part of healing is passing on what we’ve learned and helping others feel less alone. That’s exactly what this parent has done.

After attending our workshop, she was inspired to offer a talk to share her own story and the impact of trauma-informed parenting with others in her local community. She kindly highlighted the work of Trauma Informed Parenting during her talk, which has since led to other organisations getting in touch to book workshops.

We couldn’t be prouder. This is how change happens—one conversation, one act of courage, and one person sharing hope with another.

Thank you for being such an inspiration and for helping to spread a trauma-informed approach even further. 💙
