DEADLINE EXTENDED- midday, Friday 21st August

We are recruiting for a small number of volunteers to join our Board of Trustees. Whether you already have experience of being a charity Trustee or would be new to this sort of role then we would love to hear from you if you are someone who is passionate about the benefits of the arts and creativity for wellbeing; and excited about helping a small but vital organisation to grow and develop.

We’re looking for people who care about, and understand or are keen to learn about, the challenges people experiencing mental ill-health can face, and how the arts can help improve emotional wellbeing and promote good mental health. You will be someone who is up for discussion and debate with others on our friendly Board and with our management team to ensure the best decisions are made in the interests of the charity and its participants.

Creative Response, an established and highly valued small charity, based in Farnham, helps people from across Surrey who are experiencing mental ill-health and other vulnerabilities. Our art sessions offer respite from the day-to-day pressures of life; provide the opportunity to create in a wide variety of ways; and offer a sense of belonging and community in which everyone can flourish. For many of our participants we are a life saving service.

Could you help us in our mission to promote emotional wellbeing and mental health through the arts and creativity?

Time commitment:
-5 meetings a year (usually during the evening inperson & by zoom)
-1 yearly board strategy day
-Encouraged to contribute some ad-hoc time to support our annual summer show and Christmas pop-up shop.

A gentle reminder to the members of our community that Creative Response is now closed for the summer break, reopening for a brand new term on 1st September.

We've had an amazing jam packed year of creativity and lovely companionship within our special community with trips, exhibitions and creative workshops. Thank you to , , , RSPB Surrey Heath, , , , , , for all partnering with us throughout the year with workshops and curation.

Thank you to every member of our special community for a super year. It's been amazing, as are you.

We can't wait to reopen our doors in the coming term in September to explore more creativity with our participants.

In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled on the new Creative Response mini art gallery on West street just past the Farnham Library to see our brand new mini exhibition for summer, that opened yesterday. Its a celebration of Summer in a Creative Response way. 🌞 🌊 🐔 🐥 🐚 Let us know what you think?

Earlier this week we enjoyed some plein-air urban sketching in the Farnham Museum gardens. Keeping ourselves cool in the shade of the gardens leafy foliage, our participants used dip pens and ink, capturing the beautiful buildings that surround the Farnham Museum.

These gorgeous works are by Jo, Charlotte, George, Tony, Alice and other members of our community.

This forms part of our art outside the gallery programme, helping our community to get outside whilst creating art.

With thanks to Farnham Town Council for helping towards the funding of the workshop and the incredibly talented
and our arts worker Ewa for your expertise.

It was a joyful way to spend the day.

A gentle reminder to the members of our community that this week is the last week of term before we close for the summer break; reopening on Monday 1st September.

New Creative Response mini gallery opens!

We at Creative Response were delighted when Farnham Town Council agreed we could adopt this gorgeous old red phone box just outside our main studios, after it was refurbished earlier this year.

We’ve long had our eye on it, as a great way to share more of the bright and brilliant art work produced at Creative Response studios with the Farnham community, and bring joy to passers-by 😊.

It’s been lovely to see smiling faces peering in at Paddington through June and to get lots of lovely feedback on his arrival in the box last month. He even got a mention in the Herald!

Last week we were incredibly grateful to be invited to join a special workshop with the Farnham Maltings. Marks of Belonging is a community craft project combines the historic cyanotype printing process (dating back to 1842) with hand-stitching and storytelling. Members of our community used sunlight, natural botanicals, and fabric to create blue-toned cyanotype panels. These panels will then be worked on by a new group, embellishing with embroidery to reflect personal and collective stories of belonging and place. Led by local print and textile artists, Paula Cairns and Louise Renae Anderson, and funded by South Street Trust, the workshop was enjoyed by many of our community.

The final masterpiece of print and stitch-making will form a large-scale collaborative textile installation displayed in the glass entrance of the Farnham Maltings during Farnham October Craft Month 2026 and the 30th Anniversary of the Festival of Craft, celebrating Farnham as a World Craft Town.

We cant wait to see it!
