It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Dame Penelope Keith.
Dame Penelope enjoyed a long and cherished association with Godalming Band and was a tremendous supporter of our organisation over many years. Her warmth, professionalism and unmistakable presence graced so many of our most significant occasions, where she was often our first choice as narrator or Master of Ceremonies.
Among the many highlights of her involvement with the band was her role in John Golland's 'Into the Ark', a work specially written for band and narrator, which Dame Penelope brought to life with her exceptional talent and eloquence in the magnificent Great Hall at Charterhouse School.
Dame Penelope's generosity towards the band and her enthusiasm for music and the arts will be remembered with great affection by all who had the privilege of working with her. She was not only a distinguished actress and public figure but also a valued friend of Godalming Band.
Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her family, friends and all those who were close to her at this difficult time.
