A little story about our Friday Girl Gang 👩‍🍳

It all started with one teenager undertaking her Duke of Edinburgh. She started coming along on Friday afternoons after school to learn to cook. The following week, she brought a friend. The week after that, she brought two. And they just kept coming 💕 which is how our Friday afternoon girl gang was born!

It’s now something we all look forward to at the end of every week. These girls are absolutely hilarious, and watching them grow in confidence and become such talented cooks has been the best.

An appreciation post for these legends was long overdue 🥹

Just wanted to do a wee shoutout for a few of our upcoming community projects! 👋🍴

And don’t forget, you can also organise a FREE cooking class with us if you have a group of 6+, just get in touch and we'll see what we can do! We’re also happy to hear your ideas for what you’d like to cook, so if there’s something you’ve always wanted to learn, let us know.

🍳 Men’s Group Cooking Group 👨‍🍳

We’re excited to announce the start of our Men’s Group Cooking Group, beginning Thursday 10th September!

Last year, this project was a roaring success 🔥 We had so much fun cooking with everyone who came along! It was amazing to see how much you can learn in just six weeks, and we shared plenty of good food and laughs along the way.Then, of course, we got to feed over 800 people at Sandys Community Centre for the Community Campfire. The perfect way to round off the project.

August in Edinburgh? We’re all about less shows, more doughs (sorry?) over here. 🍰

Come to our Delicious Desserts class on Saturday 22nd, 2pm–4.30pm and leave with some new skills and fancy puddings (much better than your usual fringe hangover!)👩‍🍳

As always, every penny you spend directly supports our food education projects in Craigmillar.

After years of faithful service, our commercial dishwasher has finally packed it in 💔

We've been doing some number crunching recently, and we figured out that thanks to this dishwasher (there may have been a few other people involved 😉), we've reached more than 4,000 people through our community activities and distributed almost 5,000 ready-to-reheat meals through local food banks and pantries 📈

It's the unsung hero of our kitchen, washing thousands upon thousands of plates, pans and trays so we can keep cooking with our community. Replacing it is going to cost us a LOT.

If you're able to donate anything at all towards a new dishwasher, we'd be so grateful

One of our Spring highlights was this sunny afternoon when students from Castlebrae set up our trusty food truck in front of their school and served food they’d made from scratch to students, staff and passers-by ☀️🚚

👉 This was part of a three-month project with students from Castlebrae Community Campus, where we tried to teach skills that go beyond just cooking. The young people learned about running a food business, food hygiene, health and safety, allergens and what it’s like to work front of house.

The students absolutely SHONE during service 🙌 They were enthusiastic, hilarious and made some truly delicious food.
