Richmond's Hope

Richmond's Hope Richmond’s Hope is a charity that supports bereaved children and young people age 4 to 18 years old

Richmond’s Hope was founded in April 2003 in Niddrie, Edinburgh, in response to a need within the local community. People from the church and the café project became aware of behavioural problems amongst local children who had been bereaved. In 2001 there were fifteen deaths of young people in the area which directly affected the lives of thirty nine children (either the children of the deceased or siblings). The church was involved because the minister conducted the funerals and local people were involved because the café is a place where people meet and talk. A group of local people, including bereaved people, raised the money to convert an area of the church into a playroom and staff the project which opened in February 2003. Since that time our work with bereaved children has been widely recognized and we now have service level agreements to provide a service for the whole of the City of Edinburgh and Midlothian.

At Richmond's Hope, we know that every grieving child and young person has a story that deserves to be heard. By creating safe spaces to share feelings, experiences and memories, we help young people find their voice and remind them that they are not alone.

Today, we're standing with children and young people affected by bereavement and recognising the courage it takes to speak about loss.

Because when young people feel heard, meaningful change can happen. 🌈

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming volunteers from Succession Wealth to our Glasgow base.

Throughout the day we cleared out cupboards, wrote thank you letters for wonderful supporters, toured the base and hosted discussion sessions to seek advice on how we can further spread the word about our cause!

Thank you so much team Succession Wealth - your support is so valuable 🌈

What if grief looked nothing like you expected?

A child can be laughing with their friends, doing well at school, and still be carrying the weight of their bereavement.

Grief doesn't always look like tears.

Sometimes it looks like silence.
Sometimes it looks like anger.
Sometimes it can feel like they are wearing a mask.

That's why bereavement support matters.

At Richmond's Hope, we provide a safe space where children and young people can talk openly, make sense of their feelings, remember the person who has died, and learn that whatever they're feeling is okay.

🌈 Do you know a bereaved child or young child who needs support? Help us spread the word.

Please share this post so that more families know help is available. You never know who in your community may need to see it today.

If you know a child or young person who is struggling after a bereavement, or if you'd like to learn more about our services, get in touch with Richmond's Hope. We're here to help.

Could you spare a few hours to help make a difference?

For Children’s Grief Awareness Week, Richmond’s Hope will be holding charity collections and we're looking for volunteers to lend a hand.

Children’s Grief Awareness Week shines a light on the impact of bereavement on children and young people, helping to raise awareness of the support they need and deserve. By volunteering at one of our collections, you'll be helping us spread that message while raising vital funds for our bereavement services.

Whether you can give an hour or a full shift, we'd love to hear from you.

If you'd like to volunteer or find out more, please get in touch with Richmond's Hope today.
Fell free to message us on our socials or email our Community Fundraiser, Charlotte: [email protected]
