🌿 Harvest to Plate at EATS Community Garden 🍅

Today we made a delicious Polish Leczo – a colourful summer dish packed with fresh courgettes, peppers, tomatoes and Polish sausage. 🇵🇱🥒🫑🍅

Leczo is a really popular summer dish in Poland and a great way to use up all those courgettes when you suddenly have far more than you know what to do with! 😄
It’s quick, easy and perfect for making the most of fresh, seasonal veg from the garden. 🌱

One of the best things about these sessions is getting to try something a bit different, share our favourite dishes and swap ideas… and sometimes discover a new favourite along the way! 😃

Everyone really enjoyed it – and Martin seemed particularly keen on it too. We’re not sure he would have said no to having the whole bowl to himself! 😂🥣

A lovely Harvest to Plate session – and if you’ve got a few courgettes, peppers and tomatoes to use up, why not give Leczo a go? 🍅🌿

The learning space upgrade in the EATS Centenary Orchard's classroom is well underway with kitchen cabinets being installed last week, solar panels taken down over the weekend and work started this morning on replacing the patio and leaking roof.

Please stay away from the patio area this week whilst construction work is happening - there is a lot of wood with protruding nails lying around at the moment and we don't want anyone hurting themselves! We have opted for a composite decking this time round and will of course recycle and repurpose the lifted floorboards if good enough for other projects such as building little planters etc.

We are so excited about these improvements made possible thanks to funding from the Crown Estate Fife Council and can't wait to welcome new and existing groups and events back to the EATS Greenspaces very soon.

We grow a nice variety of produce in our community garden! Some of it gets taken to the EATS Hub & EATS Living Room Cafe, some gets cooked and consumed directly in the EATS Greenspaces as part of our plot to plate sessions or volunteer lunches and some gets given out to volunteers or visitors in exchange of small donations.

If you are interested in helping us grow more veggies, especially if you have experience in growing in greenhouses or polytunnels, or if you would like to get involved in other parts of our work, either pop round for a visit or get in touch with [email protected].

Reminder: there will be NO TREETOTS tomorrow Monday 24th August due to construction work at the patio & classroom.

One of today's highlights at Treetots today was listening to the children chatter as they were picking blackberries: "oh here's a fat juicy one hiding! This one is still red, it's not ready yet!".
Lots of families also went home with courgettes - show us what you've made with them, be it a soup, cake or savory dish!
We're taking a little break next week due to us having workmen in.
We also wish the children leaving us this week all the very best as they start school - we'll miss you and hope you'll come and say hi during the holidays!

Join Mimi and Derek for a hands-on outdoor session as part of the Fife Climate Forest Tree Canopy Survey, helping to build a detailed picture of Rosyth’s urban trees.

Together we will go on a short walk and identify local tree species, record their size and health, and use a simple app to log our findings. These observations will contribute to a permanent public map, helping to protect and grow Fife’s urban forest. You can read more about the project here: https://www.climateactionfife.org.uk/projects/community-tree-planting-and-natural-environment-enhancement/mapping-fifes-trees-and-woods/
If you have any questions or would like a link to download the App (not essential as we will be sharing devices) onto your own phone, please message the page.
No experience needed — you’ll be guided through everything on the day. Just dress for the weather and come along!

We will be meeting outside the EATS Hub & EATS Living Room Cafe at 11:00 on Friday 21st August and will be doing the survey for about 2 hours. Why not grab a cuppa or lunch at the EATS Living Room Café before or after?

🌞💚 And just like that… Café Inc summer 2026 is a wrap! 💚🌞
What an amazing four weeks it has been!

We finished our final Café Inc session with a fantastic BBQ and over 250 lunches were served. Great afternoon of food, crafts, fun and community. 🍔🌳☀️

Across the four weeks, we have served around 750 lunches to local children and families — something we are incredibly proud of. 🥪🍎

A huge thank you to Gingie from Fife Gingerbread for coming along to our final session, and to Fife Gingerbread for joining us throughout the summer and providing help and support.

🎨 A massive thank you to Angela from Est 2011 Crafts with Care for organising fantastic crafts for the children at our Café Inc sessions. It has been brilliant seeing so many little ones getting creative! ✂️🎨

🙌 And to our incredible volunteers — THANK YOU!
From preparing and serving food, helping with activities, welcoming families and keeping everything running, you have given your time and energy week after week. We genuinely couldn’t have done it without you. 💚

And finally, thank you to everyone who came along and made our orchard such a lovely, welcoming place throughout the summer. 🌳
It has been wonderful to see the orchard full of families, laughter, food and community spirit.

Thank you for making Café Inc 2026 so special. 💚

Next week we’re back to our regular Treetots sessions.
