Volunteer Support Request📣📣

The area afloat team are looking for volunteers to help support get our cadets afloat on the following courses/weekends;

April 11-13 (Dundee) - Overnight Supervisors and Chef
April 18-20 (Port Edgar) - Overnight Supervisors and Chef
May 9-11 (Port Edgar) - Overnight Supervisors

Are you a boats officer, sailing/windsurfing instructor or RYA Principal/Chief Instructor at the Unit in Northern Area?

If you are interested in our current thoughts/plans, have your own thoughts or wants from us or simply have some questions relating to sailing or running a training centre

The Area Sailing and Windsurfing team will be online on the 2nd April between 1900 and 2000 for an informal drop in.

Have you completed an RYA instructor course this year? 👩‍🏫

We have noticed a gap in instructor numbers, particularly those going through courses this year or those who may have revalidated recently.

Please note these qualifications are not automatically awarded on Westminster following the course. Might be worth having a look at your qualification record.

Once you receive your certificate in the post from the RYA, your qualification should then be awarded locally by your Unit ✍️

Amazing to see success at the end of the season in form of 3 new Dinghy Instructors, LC Abby (Dunbar), LC Esther (Rosyth) and PO Laird (Leith) who all passed their course last week while at Sea Cadets Port Edgar Boat Station ⛵️ 👏

A huge well done to all 3 for pushing through a week of mixed wind and the start of the winter weather. Coming out with some strong sessions increasing the female representation in sailing instructors within Northern Area! 💪

Cadets from across Northern Area took the trip down to Southport for the National Sailing and Windsurfing Regatta 2024! ⛵️

They had a challenging two days of temperamental conditions with a Saturday morning slump waiting for wind to breeze on for racing Sunday.

Team Northern put up a good battle and came home with the following results:

Open Quest - 1st and 8th 🥇
Junior Quest - 10th and 11th
Open Zest - 5th and 8th
Open Pico - 3rd 🥉
Junior Topper - 3rd 🥉
Overall Area Dinghy - 3rd 🥉
Windsurf 4.8 - 10th and 11th
Windsurf 5.8 - 3rd and 4th 🥉
Overall Area - 3rd 🥉

The cadets showed immense team spirit, determination and resilience with some great race results throughout the regatta.

Huge thanks from an immensely proud ASO to the staff team who provided top class support for them at the event, and also to those throughout the year to get to this point.

What an awesome regatta to close the summer season! ☀️ ⛵️

Cadets from across Scotland took to the water on the River Forth at Sea Cadets Port Edgar Boat StationSea Cadets Port Edgar Boat Station for a day racing in some amazing weather 🌬️

Race one started a bit slow against the tide however as the day went on, racing got closer between all the boats putting on an exciting show ⛵️

A huge well done to all the cadets who took part, and congratulations to the medal winners. 🥇 🥈 🥉 with a special shout out to Sea Cadets Edinburgh District for winning this years overall and all their sailors represented at Area getting through to Nationals 🏆

And a huge thanks and appreciation to the volunteers and Units who supported the day. 👏

Good luck to all those coming to Nationals at South Port on the 27-29 September. 🤞
