Each session explores a different theme from the past, giving young adventurers the chance to learn new skills, take part in interactive activities, and experience history in a fun and engaging way.

Whether training as a medieval warrior, handling armour as a knight, uncovering the secrets of the Romans, joining a Viking invasion, or meeting real birds of prey, there’s a new adventure waiting every week.

Summer Quest Adventures:
βš”οΈ Way of the Warrior Workshop – Archery, sword fighting and medieval war paint
πŸ›‘οΈ Knights of the Realm – Armour handling, sword fighting and jousting
πŸ›οΈ Here Come the Romans – Roman medicine, food and gladiators
πŸͺ“ Viking Invasion – War paint, mythology, runes and the road to Valhalla
πŸ¦‰ Medieval Hunting & Meet the Owls – Learn about medieval hunting, discover birds of prey and hold a real live owl on your arm

Each two-hour session includes a welcome briefing, exciting activity stations, and a certificate of participation to take home.

Children can join a single session or return throughout the summer to complete the full quest.

Session Times: 10am–12pm and 2pm–4pm
Suitable for: Ages 5+
Places: Limited to 20 children per session

Book now and discover a different side of history every week at Dundonald Castle!

Parents and guardians are welcome to watch the activities from the designated viewing area on the walkway inside Dundonald Castle's Laigh Hall. This allows children to take part fully while remaining visible to accompanying adults throughout the session.

Did you know? Dundonald Castle's story stretches back over 3,500 years 🏰

While the impressive structure we see today was built for King Robert II around 1371, people have been living on Castle Hill for thousands of years before that.

Archaeological discoveries have revealed evidence of Bronze Age activity, Iron Age hill forts, medieval settlements and royal residences all layered beneath the castle we know today. Every generation left its mark on this remarkable hilltop.

When you visit Dundonald Castle, you're not just exploring a medieval fortress, you're standing on one of Ayrshire's most significant archaeological sites βš’οΈβ³

Have you visited Castle Hill? What's your favourite view from the top?

Share your photos in the comments! πŸ“·

Come and explore for yourself, we're open daily 10am-4pm 🌟

Community is at its best when people come together to make a difference!

A huge thank you to the Community Payback Unpaid Work team and Eden Garden Centre for their fantastic support in helping create and fill our beautiful new planter for our Back In Time group.

This project is a wonderful example of what can be achieved through partnership working, shared effort, and community spirit. The planter not only brightens up our space but also provides something that our group can enjoy and take pride in 🌺πŸͺ»

Thank you all for helping us grow something special! It's partnerships like these that help strengthen our community and create lasting positive impacts 🌟
