TOP MARKS FOR ANNICK

Last Friday, teams from twelve local primary schools (Abbey, Annick, Castlepark, Dreghorn, Glebe, Lawthorn, Loudoun Montgomery, Montgomerie Park, St John Ogilvie, St Winning’s, Springside and Woodlands) took part in the Rotary Primary School Quiz organised by Seagate Rotary Club.

This year’s competition was held at Irvine Old Parish Church Hall. For the first time in our competition’s history, we had a Sudden Death Tiebreak in which Annick Primary emerged as winners from Lawthorn Primary, with Glebe Primary in third place.

The Quiz is aimed at Primary Seven pupils who compete in teams of four. There are ten rounds of six questions each, covering General Knowledge and a variety of other topics from Logos and Geography to Sport.
Both Annick’s & Lawthorn’s teams will now represent Seagate Rotary in the Rotary Scotland South Area Final next month.

Pasan Gooneratne, President of Seagate Rotary, presenting the prizes, congratulated all the teams and said: “It was a great competition and every team performed well. The participants have shown how talented and inquisitive young people they are, and every school should be proud of their pupils.”

Irvine was full of pride and festive spirit as 1st Irvine Boys’ Brigade 1st Irvine Boys' Brigade were announced winners of the “Favourite Tree” at this year’s Caring Trees at the Portal.

On behalf of Irvine Seagate Rotary, President Pasan Gooneratne had the honour of presenting the award, congratulating the boys for their creativity, teamwork and brilliant community spirit. Their tree truly captured what Christmas in Irvine is all about. Young people stepping forward, working together and making our town shine.

Eric, our Projects Lead, also delivered a powerful and heartfelt message to the boys about what Rotary stands for. Service above self. Integrity. Fellowship. Leadership. He reminded them that they are already living those values through their commitment, their teamwork and their willingness to give back. It was a special moment, not just about a trophy, but about recognising character and community.

The Caring Trees at the Portal project once again showed what can happen when local businesses, schools, clubs and community groups come together with purpose. Every sponsored tree helped raise funds for local causes. Every group who took part brought colour, energy and heart to the Portal.

Irvine Seagate Rotary would like to thank every company, organisation, club and volunteer who supported the project. Your generosity and creativity turned a simple idea into a celebration of community. In truth, everyone who took part is a winner.

Together, we are stronger. Together, we serve. Together, we make Irvine brighter.
