SAVE THE DATE! Eglinton Country Park is set to host a FREE All-Ability Equipment taster session 🚲

Following on from the country park's recent outdoor accessibility event, this taster session gives the public an opportunity to discover what equipment is available and how to organise borrowing equipment at Eglinton Country Park.

➑️ Inviting residents and visitors alike to saddle up in our local country park, the exciting event is being hosted on the green beside the Racquet Hall on Friday 16 October.

πŸ“ The upcoming drop-in session will take place between 10.30am and 2.30pm with a focus on inclusive outdoor activity, accessible wheelers, bike taster sessions, and advice on hiring equipment.

Carers, community groups, volunteers, family members are all welcome, and particularly disability groups.

Attendees can drop-in or pre-book a slot to ensure an opportunity to try out the equipment.

By attending the event hosted by North Ayrshire’s Countryside Rangers and Eglinton Park staff, this is your chance to meet the team and find out how you can access our park in new and exciting ways.

Use of Eglinton Country Park's selection of scooters and wheelers is FREE, available for anyone who has limited mobility and would like to explore and enjoy our local country park.

Why not hire some of our accessibility cycling equipment?

The equipment can be hired for up to 2 hours for use within Eglinton Country Park. Collection times are available at either 10am or 1.30pm. All equipment must be returned by 4pm.

The Accessibility Equipment must be booked in advance, call Eglinton Country Park on 01294 551776 or email [email protected] if you would like to hire the equipment upon your next visit.

The Village Funhouse is run by a local business Bourtreehill Supermarket. This is a small soft play where parents and carers can sit back and relax whilst their little and big ones play.

Perfect setting if your child is not keen on big events. We will have limited numbers to ensure overcrowding is at a minimum.

Quinns Kitchen will also be serving hot food and drinks so feel free to purchase some lunch whilst your child plays.

SHOULD NORTH AND EAST AYRSHIRE COME TOGETHER?

People affected by social-care decisions in North and East Ayrshire appear to have much in common.

Service users, unpaid carers and families in both areas have raised concerns about:

β€’ Reductions in support
β€’ Reassessments
β€’ Complaints
β€’ Whether lived experience is being properly heard

Perhaps it is time to arrange a joint public meeting in March or April 2027.

People from both areas could compare evidence, identify shared concerns and discuss the differences between the two systems.

The venue should be accessible and close to the current Service 11 bus route, which connects Kilmarnock, Crosshouse, Irvine, Kilwinning, Saltcoats and Ardrossan.

Holding the meeting before the May 2027 council elections would also ensure these experiences form part of the public debate before residents vote.

This time of year can bring lots of excitement on planning the remainder of the year.

Christmas is a time where we celebrate as a family and make Christmas as magical as possible for our children.

People save up all year round to create these magical memories just to see the magic that they have planning unfold on Christmas Day.

However, as we all know families can find themselves in unfortunate circumstances that can cause issues with finances, meaning that they will have to prioritise the necessities over extras such as Christmas presents.

These circumstances do not discriminate and can also affect our ASN families also. With caring duties increasing meaning families are unable to work as they once did are one of many reasons our families may end up in these difficult situations.

For the past few years within my own job we have supported this cause. It brings us great joy knowing that a child will wake up on Christmas day with a present bought specifically for them. This will allow a family to feel a little lighter on Christmas morning.

If you are in a position to help then please email

[email protected]

Please let the team know that you have seen this advertised via ASN Support - Ayrshire and you will be allocated an ASN family.

You will then be allocated a child and given their age.

Again, only help if you feel you are in a position to do so. Even if you can share this post we would be forever greatful.

❗️Please note this this appeal is for North Ayrshire❗️
