CONGRATS TO CALLUM!

On Friday 5th June into Saturday 6th June one of our volunteers Callum ran the Ayrshire Coast Sunset Ultra 50km run on behalf of Coastwatch Irvine.

The route took him and fellow participants from Irvine Beach down past Brassie and Troon along the coast before turning back at doonfoot Beach for the return leg.

This is an incredible accomplishment for Callum especially as it is his first competitive race! Go big or go home Callum! Well done!

Two 18-year-old men have been arrested and charged after a 17-year-old male was assaulted at Irvine Beach Park.

The incident was reported around 5.45pm on Saturday, 25 April, 2026.

The pair are expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, 27 April, 2026.

Sergeant Will Thomson, from the Irvine Locality Policing Team, said: “Thankfully there were no serious injuries, and two men were arrested following swift action by our officers patrolling nearby at the time.

“As our beach park in Irvine develops over the coming months, we will continue to deploy proactive patrols to target any antisocial behaviour and to stop the small number of people intent on causing misery to those who want to enjoy the area.”

Councils, emergency services and NHS Ayrshire & Arran are among partners who have joined forces once again to deliver the annual Safer Shores campaign.

The campaign aims to encourage everyone to enjoy Ayrshire’s stunning coastline and beautiful beaches safely, responsibly, and respectfully while reducing disruption to local communities.

Campaign measures may include additional patrols by Police Scotland and British Transport Police and enforcement of local alcohol bylaws.

Superintendent Jim McMillan said: “We encourage people visiting beaches in Ayrshire to be responsible and act with consideration for others.

“The Safer Shores initiative is in place to ensure those living and visiting Ayrshire can do so safely. Partner agencies are working together to prevent and address any issues or incidents.

“Any criminal or anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and we will take appropriate action where incidents are reported and offenders are identified.

“Anyone with information or concerns about anti-social activity should report it to Police Scotland on 101 or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Yvonne Baulk, Head of Service for Housing and Public Protection at North Ayrshire Council, said: “We’re delighted to support Safer Shores 2026 as we welcome residents and visitors back to our beautiful Ayrshire coast. Working hand in hand with our partners, we can ensure everyone enjoys our beaches responsibly. Together, we’re committed to creating a positive, enjoyable experience for all.”

Jane Bradley, Director of Communities and Transformation for South Ayrshire Council said: “We look forward to welcoming visitors back to our beaches again this year. It’s always great to see a buzz about the coastline when the weather picks up. Safer Shores is very much a team effort and by working closely with our partners everyone can enjoy our coastline safely and respectfully.”

Richard Grieveson, Depute Chief Executive at East Ayrshire Council said: “Residents of East Ayrshire are fortunate to have a choice of beautiful local beaches within easy reach, making them ideal destinations for short day visits over the summer months. We’re pleased to support our partners and neighbouring councils to ensure these trips are as safe and enjoyable as possible.”
